How easy was it to fit the armrest?

Take centre console out

2 T20 torx screws under rear coin holder and three under front ash tray, clipped in to the trim under the heater controls just push and wiggle and it will come loose.

Remove the gear stick trim and the front ashtray holder will come with it (be careful to remove the light which is attached) remove the trim in front of the hand brake.

Lift from the back (remember the cigarette lighter is still attached so don't pull too hard) while lifting get the gear stick trim and twist it 90 degrees and feed it through the hole in the centre console where it came from.

Unplug the cigarette lighter and it should come free now.

Position the armrest into the cup holder in front of the coin holder and screw from underneath and the rear (check this thread out, it has a diagram http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/189942-pimped-my-golf-mk4-armrest/page__hl__%20pimped%20%20my%20%20armrest )

Then refit it all.

Don't forget to plug in the light for the ashtray and the cigarette lighter like I did and I ended up having to take it all out again this morning :(

As for the usefulness of the armrest well it feels right but its not 100% solid (this could be my bad workmanship)

It gets in the way of the seatbelt clip and the handbrake but it feels natural to rest your arm on.
