Monte Carlo Sports suspension?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Looking for a little advice, I have a Monte Carlo on order & was considering lowering it a little.

The standard car claims to have "sports suspension" but I cannot find any info regarding whats differant to standard Fabia kit. All the Skoda websites, the current fabia range brochure & the original Monte brochure simply state "sports suspension". Going by the vehicle date the MC is 5mm less in height roof to ground & the standard 195/55/15 vs the MC 205/40/17 are the same diameter so is this really a 5mm lower set of springs? I was told by sombody @ a dealer that the suspension is said to be firmer which would suggest differant shocks?

I was thinking about the Ebiach -30mm pro springs but as they are listed for standard Fadia I asume I will get a -25mm drop on my MC?

Cheers

Ewan.

Having driven a stand fabia and monte the suspension is defferent the monte has little roll and is a lot stiffer.

Imo i thing monte only really needs a 20mm drop,

Skoda recomend eibach for the VRS (which they offer through their accessories site) so its a gd plave to start.

From recollection the standard Fabia hatch has a ground clearance of 134mm and the vRS and Monte Carlo 129mm and a Crash points out, the MC has noticeable less role than our previous Elegance on standard set-up. Neither does there appear to be an increase in harshness of ride on 17" rims over the Elegance on 16". Mind at the moment were running on 15" winters and the ride and even handling is very good IMO.

I have the Eibach pro springs (30mm). They are very well suited to the OEM dampers - NO crashing, and the ride is generally excellent making the car feel MUCH nicer and responsive.

Not 100% sure what the effect of the springs alone is (in terms of body role) as I fitted a H&R 25mm rear anti roll bar at the same time so it keeps dead flat round any corner!!

Steevie - if you don't mind me asking (*and saving me a job), how much were the springs and ARB?

The Monte may have to stay, so reducing the harshness of ride might be a good thing to do...

I had been looking at smaller alloys, to swap to when the tyres need changing, but I'm not sold on that yet.

Springs were from awesome GTI (£160ish iirc) and the RARB was from the H&R group buy, can't remember the price - see group buys for the price.

Steve

Cheers.

Is there any way to check if i have the sport suspension?

I orderd my car with sport suspension but i was expecting the suspension to be stiffer than it is right now..

If you order a standard from the factory vRS or Monte Carlo the Skoda description in brochures is 'Sports suspension'.

Did you order and pay to have the option of alternative springs fitted by the dealership?

My mates 1.4 vrs and my 1.6 tdi monty share the same standard set up,both of which are fine even on the potholed cartracks that pose as roads here in mid lincolnshire lol!!!

Quite true ...because this so-called sports suspension is the softest I've ever encountered on a car with sporting aspirations.

Fitting the Skoda approved Eibach springs brings it to how it should have been as standard...all IMHO of course....for the vRS that is,the Monte is ok as standard,It's power being a lot less,if that's your preference.

Apparently the sports suspension is optional, mine has sport  suspension and I recently changed the rear springs to the standard springs which were about 35mm longer and gave a softer ride. I then changed back to the sport ones and definitely firmer gain

@snoopdowg

Skoda called the standard suspension on the Monte Carlo or the vRS 'Sport suspension'.

The dealer fitted @ the PDI Eibach springs were the option,

so do you have these on or the OEM factory springs?

Bought lesforder rear springs from GSF. Then fitted 16" wheels off a seat toledo which meant I could use 205/45/16 instead of 205/40/17
