Superb 170 4x4 MPG? What are YOU getting?

Featured Replies

As a newly de-camped ex-Yeti owner, after nearly three years of knowing the car and the engine inside out, I'm keen to know what ball-park figures others are achieving from their vehicles under different driving conditions.

So far, in only 10 days and one fill-up after 530 miles, I've had an "indicated" 47mpg - and in reality (brim to brim) 44.5 over mainly A roads with hills, driven like a geriatric blancmange.

You?

In four years I've covered 23,906 miles, using 2,608 litres (574 gallons) of diesel, giving a lifetime average of 41.68mpg.

Best tankful was 51.98mpg, worst was 37.19mpg. All figures quoted are "brim-to-brim" on filling up to the exact same level each time.

I'm happy with that, BTW. :)

OK mine is not a 4WD so it is always going to get a couple of MPG over a 4WD car.

29K miles and I usually average around 47MPG (actual) lowest has been 43, highest 50.1.

I always get a higher MPG when on my winter tyres, the next fill up will possibly see my best being beaten as I am on around 54.5MPG with ¼ of a tank left (470 miles).

The maxidot figures typically read over by around 10%, this can be calibrated with VCDS if you want to.

Seems to average ~45mpg on trip, so probably 40mpg true, 26 months and 29K miles. Sorry dont bother to keep track of brim to brim to check actual.

Cheers

Steve

I've got a 170 Tdi 4x4, I do no motorway milage at all, lots of A, B roads and some town driving and average about 37 - 40 mpg, as the Superb tank is small compared to other car of this size including the Passat! the petrol light comes on after about 47 litres, This is about 10 gallons. So i see about 370 - 400 miles form full to light on, I thought this was pour but my brother has a 2.0Tdi Mondeo, same age he does some motorway driving and his does just over 500 miles to when the light comes on a 70 litre tank with 10 litres left, This roughly works out on 60 litres used to about the same MPG also baring in mind I have the added weight and fuel consumption of a 4x4 system to take into account!

I have this car for towing a caravan in case you ask, which it is brilliant at, for day to use it is great except the fuel consumption and the fact it does a DPF regen nearly every month, which is more or less like tipping fuel straight down the drain!.

An interesting variation amongst owners. Mind you, I think that driving like an old frat will help the economy!!

And insurance? I started a thread in the Yeti section, but it got hijacked in some good humoured joshing about "**arses" and "ta*is" !!!

My insurance on the 'Berb is 1/3rd cheaper at £200 than the Yeti at £300 which I dont really understand, tho a plausible theory was that the Yeti might be more prone to being nicked!! Not so sure.

What do others find with insurance? Mine is fully comp, for a commute, NCB saved, windscreen cover etc.
