GPS wire from dash into behind stereo/glove box

Featured Replies

I'm trying to run a USB cable from a GPS mouse I want on the dash board down to the glove box where my USB hub is.

I read somewhere here a while back that there was already a "run" for this kind of cable ready for the factory GPS system, i've had a good look around and all I can find on the dash just behind the windscreen are the holes for the air vents (is there a channel in one of these or something).

Failing that I think I can run it along and down but will need to remove the plastic on the left side of the windscreen but it doesnt wanna budge and since I dont know which way to pull it i'm frightened of breaking it, so if anyone knows? ;)

Deffo on the newer cars the vent doesn't come out.

The glove box drop easily and there is also a side panel which drop out easily enough.

You probably won't need to go this far though :D

But here's one with the glovebox out

Glovebox comes out really easy, just a few torx screws. But if you have aircon, there is a pipe going to the glovebox. Remove this from the glovebox end, very easy to pop off and back on though, just don't pull it.

and it's a little tricky if you have airbag deact.

So are you saying with the glove box out I can just pop the wire up through one of the vents on the dash?

I dont really need the glove box out if not, I just need a wire run from up the top to a hole where all my usb and video cables go into the BOTTOM of the glove box (thats where they drilled a hole, so basically the wires come from the back, up behind the carpet, and quietly into the hole), ideally i'd like to re use this but have to get the cable there first.

thanks

Nope I doubt you get into the vents as they will be connected to the ventilation system.

so if someone could maybe tell me how the upright plastic covers come off the side of the windscreen I can tuck the wire around the edge of the dash and into the footwell that way

There is a small cutout at the bottom to take a screwdriver. Prise the curved bit of the 'D' outwards (carefully, or you'll mark the plastic). There are 3 or 4 of the dreaded spring clips holding the panel on, so work your way upwards, prising as you go. The forward edge just tucks in, so once the clips are free the panel opens almost like a door.

Same technique goes for the fusebox cover on the other end of the dashboard.

I thought you meant the Pillar trims mate.

As for tucking a wire in, you may find the wire will just push in around the dash and down the side. I hard wired our Snooper/Road Angels in and the wires push nicely in as the dash is a little bit soft.

i do mean the pillar trims, once thats out the way i can tuck cable down and round into the end plate and under, my dash must be super tight cos there is no way i can get a cable round with the pillar trims on!

hehe, after all that I managed to squeeze it AROUND the dash and then through the end cap and behind, then up into the hole i made in the bottom of the glove box. All nice and tidy now :)

Once I had a little bit in I pulled it and it more or less fell behind :)

Now, just gotta get that screen in the dash and make it readable!
