Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Got 2 new front tyres today and while I was there I got the alignment done. The guy said it was off(as suspected).

My question is(and I will go back ASAP)....why is the actual steering wheel sitting slightly to the left? If I were to drive 'straight' then I'm for the other side of the road!.

2006 Fabia vRS by the way...

That happned to me, i suspect the steering wheel wasnt straight when the alignment was done therfore the car pulls to one side when you have wheel straight, pain iny arse if u ask me!!!!! Cud be more to it but that was my problem!!

Take it back..

They have done a half arsed alignment.

Make sure u can see what there doing aswell because some people will just take the wheel off and rotate it a tooth or 2 to make it straight instead of re-doing the alignment ;)

If they have a propper aligent machine they should have a clamp that holds the wheel straight while they adjust the tracking.. they may have used it + it fell off.. or they might have not used it..

..either way u need to take it back.. take the manager out in the car + show him..they should def re-do it untill your happy :)

I seen the guy putting a clamp type thing resting on the drivers seat attached to the steering wheel. I must go back in today

Ye m8 thats the clamp ;)

Sumtimes even when its been used the wheel can be out..

Did they sort it for u?

Can take a few attempts on the fabia tbh lol.. :(

How'd you know it was this alignment that was done wrong and not a previous one done wrong and someone adjusting the wheel to compensate? So now it's done properly, it's out again.

Fair point yeah. Tho as someone said, I should maybe take them a spin and let them see just how bad/off it is.

If the wheel was clamped then the toe (tracking) would be set up for the straight wheel so regardless of if it had been moved previously it should be straight when the car is driving straight..

If the wheel has been moved off centre.. now or previously u would only notice in full lock because it would lock slightly less on one side + more on the other.. u wouldnt notice when driving normally..

 Makes sense! Down to them to sort then. My fiesta needs tracking/alignment, wheel is also wonky :wall:

Got sorted. Used a different machine(and I think the boss man did it this time!!).

Relief!

To be fair, it doesn't take much to get a steering wheel off to one side slightly.. Can be infuriating to say the least.
