Best OEM steering wheel upgrade?

Featured Replies

Thinking of changing the steering wheel on my mk1 VRS. Can anyone sugest a good OEM upgrade? Would like airbag to be compatible aswell. Will the mk2 vrs/mk 5 golf platform wheel fit? Thanks

The Mk4 Golf R32 wheel is great, takes the same airbag and is the same fitting.

Mk5/6 platform wheels can be made to fit but modification is needed. Don't know the details but I know someone who has a Mk6 Golf GTI wheel in a Mk4 Golf.

S3 wheels have thumb grips IIRC. Can't beat even a standard wheel but retrimmed.

Google Royal Steering Wheels :)

Not an octavia, but I have the mk4 R32 wheel in my Fabia vRS

imho the best steering wheel in the entire VAG range (including TTRS/RS3/R8) is the vrs steering wheel

Its has more grip than any of the others

R32 is a really nice wheel, but pricey if you can't find a used one. Audi S Line wheels are nice too especially the perforated S4.

I agree. It ain't pretty (but in my opinion, none of the others are any better, in fact worse), but it does it's job well.

I had a mk4 R32 wheel on my VRS and took it back off in less than a week. It felt wrong, was too fat and I missed the perforations and grip the VRS wheel gave.

I would go for a Golf MK5 gti wheel and these can fit with mod to air bag wiring but can't be bothered with hassle at the moment to make one fit.

Sent from my Galaxy S3.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, I have a momo millenium fitted at the mo but fancy going back OEM. Know i should have kept hold of my old wheel :-( like the idea of a mk5 wheel going to keep an eye out. Was there someone breaking a mk5 golf on here?

Are there any with stereo controls on there that could be made to work with an after market head unit? But still nice and small like the vRS one.

Do the badges swap over easily?

Just keep the original airbag :) for an R32 one anyway.

I've got a multi function wheel to go on my 4x4 sometime, it is leather but a 4 spoke though.

Not really what you want I think?

Scirocco steering wheel kicks ass

I have a non stereo controls 4 spoke wheel.

I want same wheel but in leather (not vrs).

Those scirroco wheels are awesome but they are mega money! Now looking at a mk2 vrs wheel if i can find one for reasonable money.

Later VAG cars have a 2 stage airbag fitted which as we know can be modified to single stage, but I would expect your insurance company will have an issue with an airbag mod. I think you would be taking a huge risk not informing your insurer, & in the event of a claim they jump on any opportunity to refuse to settle.

Does anyone who's done the airbag mod actually know if the airbag deploys correctly in an impact?
