Updating/accessorising my L&K

Featured Replies

I'm looking forward to the arrival of my L&K snow monster (no date yet) and am thinking about changing the badges so that it matches my wife's Citigo.

I can purchase (all from Superskoda, post free) a rather smart-looking sticker to go over the rear badge, which is black with a luminous white big foot in the middle - should look good with Candy White! I can also buy a Citigio front badge (same size as Yeti) and wheel centre caps, all with the new Skoda logo, which again I think will look good with Candy White.

My questions are: how does the front badge come off? Is it a question of carefully prising it (ie, are there lugs?) or is it stuck on? Or both?

And can the wheel caps be removed without taking the wheels off, ie prised out from the front rather than pushed out from behind? (strictly polite answers only, Bobdog!)

I already have the chrome surround to the front centre console cupholder, which I shall transfer from my current monster, but think I shall also purchase the chrome surrounds for the variotronic dials and the door handle seatings to further brighten the black interior.

All thoughts welcome.

I have a Black L&K ordered and agree about the new badges. I'm interested to hear that the Citigo front badge and wheel centres fit. I think the wheel centres might prise out but doubt it could be done without a risk of damage. Not sure about the front badge but will research. I think there is a badge expert on Briskoda who makes them and would be up for sharing costs to get him to produce new type rear badging.

Dental floss is usually pretty good for removing bodywork-mounted badges. Not sure about the wheel centres, do they not have a little plastic tab on them to aid removal?

The badge on the bonnet requires one Torx screw removal, then prise off carefully with plastic removal tool.

The Citigo front badge needs two plastic locating lugs snapping off, but is then self-adhesive.

I'd whip the wheels off to fit the centres myself to avoid risking damage.

I'd also avoid the 'push on' chrome surrounds for the Variomatic - they obscure the display and potentially scratch the surround - IMHO

And whilst you're shopping the SuperŠkoda hydraulic bonnet strut is an easily fitted and worthwhile extra

Have done all of what you want to do - front/rear/wheel badges and interior chrome. Word of warning though, re the door handle surrounds - they are not chrome but alloy coloured plastic to match standard Yeti dash trim, so may look a bit odd against the piano black L&K trim. I can't make up my mind whether I should leave in situ or remove as the Urban has a metal (carbon effect) trim.

There is a thread re removing front badge with pictures - I will try and find find and post. In the meantime and from memory from doing it myself last year - first remove the centre torx bolt from behind badge. Heat up badge with hairdryer to soften glue, then gently prize off. You will need to snap off the plastic locating lugs from the front Citygo badge and then just stick on, careful mind so emblem is positioned straight. Replace rear bolt - job done.

Regards the centre caps - I took my wheels off and pushed out from behind as did not want to risk damaging the alloy rims - 17" rims very heavy and may be sensible to purchase a locating tool for about £10 to make the job a lot easier.

Finally, can't agree with Merlinman re chrome aircon control surround. Mine is perfect a looks great and in no way messes or obscures with the controls.

All excellent info Robin and Truthseeker. I've had a search and PastyBoy makes and sells custom badges so I have messaged him to see if he can sort me out a set of his "retro" silver and black specials.

I doubt if you could get the wheel centre badges off without damaging them or the wheels, but whilst the wheels are off, it’s an ideal time to copperslip the centre bore of the wheels anyway, so that they come off easily in the future.

.... and probably give the hub 'bells' a coat of paint :)

I think we may be at cross purposes here - I was referring to the chrome rings for the Climate controls (as I think the OP may have been?) which do as I say above - and I'm not the only one to make this point!

I know the ones you are referring to - the chrome rings. I have fitted them as well as the complete a/c control chrome trim. I can only state as I find - no problems, although they are a bit fiddly to fit as you must get them 100% aligned as otherwise, I agree they may obscure/foul the controls.

Thanks for all the helpful replies as usual! Food for thought before I place the order with Superskoda.

Is there a chrome trim for the whole Columbus/aircon unit? When looking on Superskoda it appeared they were all the rather dull silver finish. I'd be interested in a chrome one - not a great 'blinger' normally but I do think chrome outlines lift the vast expanse of black on the dash area.

This is the one you want as same size as surround aperture for a/c controls. Yes it is chrome.

I have PM'd Pastyman to enquire about manufacture/costs and will let you know the outcome.

Can you post on this thread any info you get? Would this include a custom rear badge?

I believe he can make front/rear/wheel centre cap bages. Will keep you informed.

Thanks

If you are going to the expense of a L&K, please go the extra mile/cost and get the genuine Skoda badges. I am sure that Pasty Boy's badges are fantastic and his will be the only option for rear & steering wheel badges, but OEM is really the only sensible option for front/wheels.

You may well be right - but I'm willing to have a look at what Pasty Boy has to offer (though I've not heard from him yet).
