Cruise control slow to react to changes

Featured Replies

My 2012 Octavia works on 1mph click's up but............ If you tap it 6 times quickly it won't increase by 6mph. you have to click it slower - almost like waiting for it to increase by 1mph before clicking it again.

Thats exactly how my 2011 facelfit work.

My car is November 2007 registered but MY2008 (go figure).

Silgle clicks do not work and you have to press and hold then when at desired speed let go.

Single clicks on the button is surely just invoking the Set and Res functions. I think it may be coincidence that the speed increase occurs. You single click the button just long enough for the car to register the + & - function and so increases slightly.

P.s. The cruise control on my Seat Cordoba also used to be the same as the Octavia. Press and hold to increase/decrease the speed. There was never a light to let you know it was switched on though unlike the Octavia... cheap skate spanish! lol

I've got the large MPH speedo enabled on my maxi-dot and pressing the + or - button once changes the speed by 1mph, every time, was the same on my 07 fabia vRS with cruise control.

I use it all the time: eliminates the chance of being caught speeding, especially in roadworks; and also help fuel economy. Most of my miles are done on m/way and D/C where I find it very useful.

Ah, yes, average speed limit annoyances are where I probably use it more than anywhere else.

I can't imagine how cruise control could slow the speed when being accelerated by Mr Newton's discovery. Gravity is simply stronger than engine braking on most hills on country roads. I agree slighter gradients on motorways are a different matter.

On the DSG, the 'box will drop a gear to provide some engine braking in order to stick to the requested speed. Depending on the gradient it is fairly effective.

Having played around with the CC a bit more, it seems that one press will either make a difference of 0, 1 or 2 km/h (fairly randomly), but several presses in quick succession don't seem to give a corresponding increase in speed. The holding down method is okay if I want to accelerate quickly, but in all honesty if I wanted to change the speed that much I'd use one of the pedals!

More motorway miles coming up today so I'll have another go.

My 2007 vRS and 2008 Scout both increase and decrease speed by approx. 1 or 2mph with each single click of the rocker switch. The press, hold and release method above works too.

Can anyone who claims that theirs changes by a fixed amount with each click try doing so while going downhill (with CC on) and see if the CC speed has been reduced by the corresponding amount or is actually the same as before?

Right, finally had a chance to try this today in my 2006 2.0 TDI PD140 DSG.

I can confirm that the cruise control works exactly as above. Single click of the + button gives a 1 mph increase and the same with the - button.

I also tried this going down a hill steep enough that the cc couldn't reduce speed. I tapped the - button twice and when I got to the bottom of the hill, the speed settled 2 mph below the previous set speed.
