Cruise control slow to react to changes

Featured Replies

Just wondering how many clicks on the cruise control + & - buttons it should take to increase speed by 1mph. Every car I've had with cruise in the past has done either 0.5 or 1 mph per click, but my VRS seems to require about 10 clicks to increase the speed by 1mph. It means that adjusting the speed via the stalk isn't really feasible, which then kind of lessens the usefulness of the feature. Is this normal on the Octavia or is it reasonable to as the dealer to take a look?

If its like mine, it doesn't work like that (that's how I thought it worked).

Try a flat road with cruise enabled then push & hold the CC '+' button until you reach desired speed then let go.

Try slowing down as well. You need to hold it in until the car reaches desired speed then let go.

It's not a 'one click = ??' operation.

Mine was only one click for a 1 mph speed increase or decrease. Iirc

Ah, okay, will pop out in a bit and give it a try...

Oops, think its a case of RTFM!

– The speed of the car will increase continuously if you hold the rocker button pressed in the RES position. Once the car has reached the desired speed, re- lease the rocker button. The set speed is then stored in the memory.

Slower

– You can decrease the stored speed by pressing the rocker button B in the SET position.

– Holding down the rocker button pressed in the SET position will cause the speed of the vehicle to reduce continuously. Once the car has reached the de- sired speed, release the rocker button. The set speed is then stored in the memory.

Thanks!

Hmm, it must have changed then, may be on the facelift?

My 2007 vRS and 2008 Scout both increase and decrease speed by approx. 1 or 2mph with each single click of the rocker switch.

The press, hold and release method above works too.

My 2007 vRS and 2008 Scout both increase and decrease speed with single clicks of the rocker switch.

My 2008 Scout doesn't, it requires button to be held one way or tother

Very wierd, what month is your Scout?

Mine is August 2008...

Registered beginning of June I believe but I don't know build date.

I wonder if this is something that could be changed by vcds?

My 2012 Octavia works on 1mph click's up but............ If you tap it 6 times quickly it won't increase by 6mph. you have to click it slower - almost like waiting for it to increase by 1mph before clicking it again.

Just tried it out holding button down and it does work, surprisingly rapidly actually. Individual clicks appear to do absolutely nothing on mine! It's a DSG is that makes any difference.

There is nothing in my car's Owner's Manual about being able to increase or decrease speed in 1mph increments but it is possible as mentioned in the previous post. For control reasons I prefer to deactivate cruise control when accelerating or decelerating but once at or near the desired speed I set cruise and then carry out fine adjustments by blipping the rocker switch up or down.

I've just checked the manual on my pre-FL vRS and it makes no mention of the single clicks, only the 'press and hold' procedure mentioned above, yet it works on mine if I press the rocker switch - I get the 1mph reduction / increase with each press.

My '07 operates as I've described (but CC is retro fitted - but can't see that making a difference).

+1

My 2006 L&K operates in this way.

Can anyone who claims that theirs changes by a fixed amount with each click try doing so while going downhill (with CC on) and see if the CC speed has been reduced by the corresponding amount or is actually the same as before?

My, 2012 vrs requires the press and hold method. Single clicks don't seem to have any effect.

Single clicks do affect the cruise control speed on my June 2009 Elegance. May be wishful thinking but I use the click function on speed restricted road works to match the vehicle in front- if no legal overtaking is possible.

As for going downhill- the cruise control never applies the brakes (I would never expect that- think of hitting ice) so I manually brake when necessary and then resume the cruise control when the hill descent has gone.

Same with my non VRS 2012 1.9 TDI Elegance. Short clicks have no effect as far as I can tell.

I wasn't suggesting it did apply the brakes!

In theory, if the clicking works, then as you go downhill and click 'decrease' five times, the car should (after it has rolled down the hill) resume CC but at 5mph less than previously.

I was playing with mine today. A quick click I creases the speed a but. A slightly longer click increases it by more. And a long click increases it until you let go.

As the click for 1mph is undocumented in the manual, I suggest it is a coincidence.

I take it back. A single click does change the speed, but at most by 0.5mph. Small enough to not notice every time.

I get a slight jerk in acceleration when I click mine, but I don't get the impression it's increased in speed by anything when released. Might be because it may be such a small margin, but it feels like it accelerates then thinks you've accidentally nudged the stalk so returns to the same speed.

Still, I never really use it, only when i'm playing. Not a big fan of cruise control anyway unless i'm doing the full M1 for mile on mile. Definitely wouldn't spec it if it wasn't standard on an L&K.

I use it all the time: eliminates the chance of being caught speeding, especially in roadworks; and also help fuel economy. Most of my miles are done on m/way and D/C where I find it very useful.

Could those that say the single click doesn't work be simply not realising it is working due to the such small increase/decrease in speed?

Possibly, but you'd have to ask them!
