wash and polish!?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, ive just run out of autoglym shampoo and SRP. Just wondered what other stuff you guys use to wash and polish with? im looking about on the net for some to order in the next few days! Cheers. Dan.

I only polish when the car is scratched.......

AGSRP is just an all in one cleaner and sealer product..it does little in the way of polishing and fills light scratches/swirls caused by bad washing technique, rather them remove them

I use waxes as my LSP and use Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo in conjunction with a pressure washer, snow foam lance and Valet Pro pH neutral Snow Foam

Iron X is made for ALL paint finishes

I only use it on my wheels as they were recently refurbed and it's acid free, really lifts off the brake dust making it easy to remove.

Im new to washing a car "properly" so forgive me for asking mate, what is LSP? My cars never really been looked after right paintwise its got swirls and scratches all over tbh. im considering buying a machine polisher and having a go myself tbf!! Ive got a good pressure washer at work which has a seperate tank for the body wash. or tfr as we use on the works vans haha. (if that makes sense? it comes out of the bottem of two tubes on the lance!?)

Have a look at Clean Your Car, spoilt for choice on here! - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/

I'm waiting for these to arrive - http://www.cleanyour...h/prod_470.html & http://www.cleanyour...l/prod_726.html

My Fabia is black so I use this which is formulated for darker paint finishes - http://www.cleanyour...e/prod_754.html

I think i will try that wash buddy! it seems to have a good few reviews aswell which is always a help!

Thanks for the replys fellas!!

It's only a few abbreviations mate, like LSP and SRP are! Don't take too much offense!

Yeah, but I still dont know what they mean!

As above Clean Your Car is a good website for general car cleaning, valeting or fully detailing your car. A few others that are more than worth a look are:-

http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/

http://www.waxyclean.co.uk/

http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/

and of course

http://gtechniq.com/main-page/

Though with many things it depends on how far you want to go and how much you want to spend. Just be warned it's a slippery slope that can get really expensive.

So if you want to get further into it with a good tar remover, iron remover for the brake dust that a lot of wheel cleaners won't remove, etc... Try:-

http://www.carpro.uk.com/wash-decontamination/ they have samples for £3, which will give you a great idea on there performance at little outlay on money. If you don't like it, you haven't lost much.

Abbreviations are many. The main ones people use are

LSP-Last Stage Protectant (wax/sealant)

IPA-IsoPropylAlcohol (for cleaning surfaces of polish/oil residue, etc...)

MF-Micro Fibre

2BM or TBM-Two Bucket Method (one wash bucket with shampoo the other a rinse bucket with plain water) So wash mitt/sponge into wash bucket, apply to vehicle, rinse wash mitt/sponge in rinse bucket to loosen the dirt gained from the vehicle, then put into wash bucket and repeat.

SRP-Super Resin Polish (by Autoglym) (polish with minor cutting action but also has a 'filler' to mask stubborn scratches)
