hello all Finally got it!

Featured Replies

Hello all, I have finally got the Fabia VRS TDI, a car i wanted a long time ago (when it first came out) sadly i was too young and could not afford the insurance. However, I finally got one! It's a 06 plate, black, done 47,000, with full history and 1 owner! very well looked after. Got a fully comprehensive warranty so don't plan on doing any mods soon.

i did some research before buying the car and it lives up to everything if not more!. I've had people sit in the car holding onto the arm rest, these are people who have big motors themselves and they are just shocked at the power of this small little beast! Enough rambling i'm sure your all very aware of its capabilities! I LOVE this car!

Sounds awesome Dvrs

Love black and not doing mods will mean it lasts for ever with regular oil changes

Hope you have many happy miles motoring in it

Best wishes

Andy

Hello all, i know this is not the place to post this i tried to post it in the ask a tech page wouldn't let me? I have actually come across a problem with my car its been less than 2 weeks!. I took it to my garage they said its the DMF. I've been told that i can ask the dealer to fix the problem because it's become faulty in such a short space of time. I do have a warranty but my mechanic said they will not pay up because it has not failed! so he insisted i go back to the dealer and tell them to sort it out. Not sure about my rights in all this so will be contacting trading standards to see if they can help me. Wanted to know if anyone has had similar problems or got any advise for me?

I'm not good with making threats and stuff want all this to go smoothly. I have already told the dealer about the problem they haven't offered to fix it.

The DPF won't be covered under the warranty I should imagine as I believe most have specific exclusions. However, as it is so soon since purchase you have good legal grounds to stand on. I am in no way a lawyer, so investigate for yourself before going in all guns blazing. But:

The Sale of Goods Act states that the product sold must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. I would argue that a DPF failure with a couple of weeks is neither. Personally, though, I would go in friendly before putting their back up with the law.

A great source of info on your rights, with the case law all inline is at Honest John's site. I hope it's allowed to link from here, but the specific page you want is:

Thanks a lot for your reply. I got in touch with consumer advise they said the dealer should at least repair the car under the "Sales of good act 1979".

Update: I got in touch with the dealer because i came across another problem with the car, they said they will cover the cost of any repairs apart from the flywheel because it has not failed its just worn and that they had checked out the car before and there was nothing wrong with it. I will be getting back in touch with consumer advise see what they have to say. Thanks again.

I have actually come across a problem with my car its been less than 2 weeks!. I took it to my garage they said its the DMF.

DMF= Dual mass flywheel. It's best practice to have the clutch changed at the same time

as it often develops slip at the same time as the DMF starts to fail.

Dmf failure is usually caused by booting the car from low revs in a high gear.

ie 60mph in 6th = about 15-1800rpm if I remember right.

From that speed and in that gear if you floor it (to overtake for example) the torque puts massive

stress on the dual mass flywheel. Best practice is to change down so that revs are comfortably above

2000rpm and the turbo will be on boost at these higher revs too.

If you want to get around something very quickly then change down two gears to 4th.

Even a bog standard un remapped vRS can suffer this if driven in this manner.

It's due to the very high torque the car produces, to make the dmf fail completely it would take

a significant number of these low rev/high gear dashes ;)

I'd imagine the flywheel is covered by warranty as it's either working or defective

it's not a component that's supposed to 'wear'.

Clutch however may not be as it's something that is supposed to wear over a

period of time and is designed as such.

The DPF won't be covered under the warranty

DPF = Diesel particulate filter.

The Fabia vRS mark 1 does not have one of these.

Thanks for the info i might just start flooring it closer to the end of the warranty ;) it seems to have subsided for now? No Idea why

Wondering if its just me being paranoid but does anyone elses fabia vrs turbo whistle quite loud? put it into neutral rev the car to about 1500 i get an almost dump valve like whistle? The car is running fine pulls in every gear no fuel problems etc. Even took it to the garage ad they did a check on all the sensors everything is fine?
