Refurbishing 312 callipers.

Featured Replies

I have everything i need for my 312 upgrade and i was just going to paint them but is there anything else i can do to give them a real refurb like seals etc? Also what is best to clean them before i paint them?

Cheers, Joe.

Wire brush for cleaning maybe?

I had a wire brush, old toothbrush, a can of brake and clutch cleaner and some old cloth.

Didn't really do any of the seals, etc.

Can get seal kits from bigg red mate, Google them. I've just replaced the seals in my cosworth calipers. Cleaned them up with wire wheel on a drill and dremel then cleaned with brake cleaner and hammerite!

Cheers i will look them up now, just thought it could be worth it while they're off the car.

I used some brake cleaner then gave them a good scrub with some warm water and fairy liquid, then painted them with some Hammerite.

Exactly what I did with my Cossie calipers, using a Bigg Red refurb kit and they turned out great. Got another set to do for my Escort too.

I popped the pistons out using a grease gun then thoroughly cleaned them out before reselling them.

I need to do the same with the 312 upgrade web I get it, it's easy enough to so so I have no issue doing another set.

Bigg red do a kit on ebay for £22 so i think its worth it for that.

Yeah mate its easy enough to do. I bought a small air pump for blowing up tyres with a cone attachment from eBay for about a fiver and cut an old brake pipe in half. That allowed me to pop the pistons out with the callipers off the car!
