loud clunk noise

Featured Replies

hi i have a fabia vrs 05. when i put full lock on and start to move its starts making a loud clunking noise that seems to be getting worse does anyone know what the problem might be???

Could be the bearing at the top of the strut which I believe allows the spring to move - if they seize the spring doesn't spin and then clunks when it does move! I bow down to superior knowledge about this??????

is this an expensive job to get fixed???

Is your car low on coilovers?

Sounds more like CV joint to me but difficult to diagnose over the internet!

Does the clunk go with the speed of the car? Like a clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk? Or just one clunk?

Phil

It could be steering top mounts, CV joints, engine steady bar, or possibly a broken spring right up at the pig tail.

it only ever makes the clunk noise when its at full lock. sometimes its just one clunk but has got worse and started to do it a few times until i take it off full lock. just to add its on standard springs.

Mine clunks on full lock too. Mines low on coilies and an MOT tester commented on how something was catching on the subframe.

mine is on standard springs but have noticed my car is very creeky when its cold going over bumps, but once its warmed up that noise goes away and then i only have the problem with the clunking noise when its on full lock.

sounds like top mount bearing, this happened to mine and tracked it down to this component and its doing the same on my off-side as we speak, costs about £8-£12 tps. like brun747 has pointed out.
