loud clunking noise

Featured Replies

hi i have a fabia vrs 05. when i put full lock on and start to move it starts making a loud clunking noise that seems to be getting worse does anyone know what the problem might be???

Hello Luke

If it's rotational and seems related to the wheel speed, I'd suggest CV joint as a starting point.

If it doesn't seem to relate to wheel rotation then it could be any number of things from suspension bushes to engine mounts. Hard to tell from your description, so better safe than sorry and I'd advise you get it checked out by a mechanic.

be better off asking this in the Fabi MkI section. I've reported it so hopefully the admin/ mod team will move it there for you.

Firstly does it continue as you drive or is it only when you start/stop?

Without further info i'd suggest console bushes, top mounts/bearings/springs, drop links - not so likely if it's even ground but a loose nut at the base where it connects to the ARB can cause this or hitting the ARB if it's been lowered, wheel bearings - they usually get louder/quieter depending on direction, ARB bushes or a small rodent with a penchant for making clunking noises with some form of rodent sized clunking instrument.

Check the last one first ;)
