Sticking Rear Caliper

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently replaced my rear brake pads on the VRS and now when pulling up I can feel one of them is sticking.

When it came to pushing the piston back in to get the pads in one of them was borderline impossible to push back at a certain mark.

What would be the best way of fixing this?

Is it new caliper time? :(

You can buy helper springs that fit into holes to help the arm return to its open position for like £5. I would try that first. They come off a touran I believe, among others. I'm on my mobile at the minute so can't get any part numbers.

That sounds interesting.

When you get a spare miunute it would be great if you could give me a few more details of how that works.

Thanks

oh one thing I forgot to mention is one of the calipers had a tear in the boot. Only small but I guess thats not normal and coudl cause a corrosion issue or something.

The slider things could move freely, so its not them.

Both eBay part numbers.

They fit like this

As above fit the springs and wd40 the arms and mechanism to free it up. You also say you pushed the piston back, you are aware they screw in aren't you? For that you need a caliper rewind tool.

I used a tool that also spins the piston. It was REALLY hard to push back through. I only managed to move it a few mm.
