Im pretty sure its not top mounts just from where the noise comes from when you push down on the front wing, its definatly lower than the top mount area, but all avenues are gonna be gone down to find it!

Im just hoping it is only the wrong size bushes!!!

  • hmm....It could be your front suspension springs and or the Suspension top mounts. If the springs are old that can squeak when the springs rub each or the rings together, also the shock dust cover in

Well just got back from the garage and squeak is still there!!!

Hes un sure what the size of the bushes where that were fitted, but he did say that they were bloody tight and cant see he would be able to fit a smaller size on!!!

But it is definatly FARB related as we did the whole me pushing down on the wing to make the squeak and then the mechanic led on the floor listening. As soon as he pulls on the arb the squeak stops!

Sooo the last thing it could be is the clamps, so hes ordered them up and so hopefully fitted this week!

If that fails then balls to it, a matching set of arbs will be ordered!!!

It will not be the clamps. they just hold the bushes / ARB in place. If you can stop the squeak or repeat it grabbing the ARB then I would be more confident it is bush related.

And as demonufo states he more than likely did not fit 17mm bushes. The Garage more than likely fitted std 19mm bushes into the clamps and ARB as that is what is STD fitment. However if you have removed the sleeves to the ARB then you should fit 17mm bushes. The Garages point of "they were bloody" tight is miss guided as all new bushes are tight to fit anyway by the nature of the requirement of the bush. If you fit Poly bushes then you will know how tight the dam things are to get to bolts up in place. In fact most Mechanics who work on these motors will have a spare longer bolt to first wind in the Clamp / Bush / ARB to compress in place then wind out the bolt and fit STD size bolt.

I say if you are changing clamps anyway change the bush to a 17mm one and be sure to fix the issue. Else you will be wasting your time

P.S not sure about greasing STD bushes but poly ones need a lot of grease between the bush /ARB and the clamp / Bush

More i think that if its going back in then may aswell just fit the 17mm bushes to be safe!

But then the more i think again about it the more i think should i just say balls to it and get a set of eibach matching arbs?!!!

I want a RARB anyway and buying them together makes the front one quite cheap!

Anybody got a part number for the 17mm bushes in case i don't go down that route?

OEM quality arms are Lemforder IIRC,

I think Lemforder might actually BE the OEM supplier.

Correcto! Lemforder/ZF are the OEM for the PQ34 platform.

Available from GSF too if you specify it.

Bowders, I fitted very similar clamps and bushes to the the link you posted,

They were genuine VAG as I got them from TPS. I used the longer bolt trick to fit them and I'd be surprised if they were the cause of the issue to be honest as they've been on for less than two years. I'm mulling this one over to think what I replaced and what the Skoda garage did. When the car made the same noise under my ownership I was convinced it was the strut top mounts or the suspension, but Skoda replaced a ball joint and the noise went away. I'll watch this one with interest.

Tis proving a tricky bugger to solve Andrew!

Its just the fact that the noise stops when the mechanic grabs the bar! Hes only ordering the clips as they are only cheap and as the powdercoat has worn it just maybe could be the reason! It also sounds like it is coming from the low end and not the top.

When you say balljoint, which part do you mean? Sorry that's probably really thick of me but just cant see which part you mean.

IM tempted to buy the polybush mounts then at least they should last me!

i would think he means balljoint on the wishbone that fits to the hub, though the droplinks have balljoints fitted too.

polybush mounts i hear can be a little harsh, shouldn't really be needed, just get good oe fit.

You beat me to it Luca, it was the balljoint on the wishbone. They only replaced one side - I normally like to replace things in pairs - but they said that the offside was in good nick. Maybe it isnt now? The drop links were replaced too in my time of owning the car, although I seem to remember not geting a receipt for that....

If the mechanic is holding the ARB and the noise stop's I would personally not suspect the Wishbone ball joint, that tends to give a knock rather than a squeak but stranger things happen.....

I have also seen bushes give up in less than a year so I would not rule them out just yet...

Ah know which one you mean now Andrew! But i presume as i had both wishbones replaced and they came complete with all bushes they also came with the ball joints? Anyone confirm?

IM pretty sure its the arb bushes, the squeak is worse than ever now! I think the old bushes were worn and had movement and therefore squeaked, now with potentially 19mm bushes instead of 17mm bushes means that there is more movement and therefore more squeak!

Yeah, I thought that too 'till Skoda worked their magic Maybe it was a combination of whatever they did that worked that time? Still two years of British weather has probably done the arb bushes in as you say so we could be closer to a solution.

Fingers crossed it's nice and simple then you can get on with enjoying the car.

Been to the garage again this morning, and hes gonna check what size bushes are now fitted and if they are not 17mm ones then he is going to order them in!

So will be going back in next week to get those fitted if needed but definatly new clamps and will get him to give them a good grease up aswell!

Oh and some other parts may now be getting fitted at the same time :)

After getting the bush part number from one of the links above and checking with the garage today... I do have the 17mm bushes fitted!

Was kinda hoping they weren't as could explain the squeak! But hes got the new clamps ready and the car is now booked in next Thurs now to have them fitted and everything greased up!

There will definatly be some other suspension parts bow getting fitted at the same time aswell :)
