ECU upgrade or repair

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! Im reasonably competent mechanically, but electronics is a bit of a mystery for me. I have the original battery in my 2004 skoda fabia, and today it lost all charge completely and the engine couldnt turn over. I have noticed the battery is losing a little bit of crank, but I wouldn't expect it to lose all charge unless there is a fault.

A few days ago the engine warning light came on. I checked the oil level and it was ok so continued driving. I think possibly there is a problem with the ecu, and this caused the battery to drain.

If this is correct, is it possible to buy a replacement ecu, and where from? Is it better to go for an oem one or one of the performance type ones?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

read through that ^^ may be a broken alternator wire

as for eml .... reading the fault code should show what caused it

Of all the things it could be the ECU is way down the list. Recharge or replace the battery depending on it's condition and then work through diagnostics as normal.

Exactly, plus I'd reckon the broken alternator wiring is a TDI issue.
