dash rattle / creack

Featured Replies

hello everyone bought a octavia 2 2006 3-4 days ago . i hear crackling sound from the dash every time when i drive on bad roads , pit on the road, speed bump , when i turn and when i push on a randomly place on the dash i hear the sound from the ventilaton where the air is comming , today when i park the car i turn off the ignition and sit in the car without push and touch somewhere i heard it 2 times :/ yesterday when i turn the fan speed to max in a fast way i heard it creacking like the front windshield is exploading

hope someone can suggest what I can do

Is it coming from the passenger side / glovebox area?

If so, there are several threads on here about possible causes & fixes for this.

Might be worth removing the glovebox and having a look at the fan behind it to see if anything is stuck & it moves when it's supposed to. It might not be visible if the 'Recirc' button is on.

the sound is comming too when i push betwen dash and the windshield , man i dont know what to say but the creak sound are comming most from the middle when i drive the car , i dont think some screws can fix that problem. the car has only gone 13 200 km , so the first timming belt was changed on 12 000 km and then the fresh air filter was changed to , according to the service manual

Fans/air con on or off makes no difference

Vents open/closed makes no difference

Storage thingy open/closed makes no difference

Can't stop it by touching panels, sticking fingers in air vents etc.

Its not the glove box or the ash tray.

The plastic panel outside maybe rubbing against the windscreen. The part kind of under the wipers. Lift it gently place some self adhesive foam pads under see if that helps. Had this issue on a Honda civic.

no its from the interior , sounds come mostly from the middle of the dash , i think they use bad quality materials , i dont know what i can do but if someone can give me a little good tips to do, thanks if someone can stand up and help me a litttle bit about this problem

Go to an autopartsstore and buy the "velcro" soft tape they use to wrap cables to stop them rattling.

Remove as much from the dash as you can. It's easy enough to remove the bottom dash covers on the drivers and passenger side, glovebox, sides, ashtray, remove the radio, remove the top storage box. If you can manage a drive with another person looking and poking around, you might be able to find the cause. If not, just tape the heck out of anything you see under the dash, and hope you get lucky.

When replacing the trim you removed, try to fit little bits of the tape between the panels. This should give you snug fits without rattles.

Or you could just turn up the radio when you're on the road! :giggle:

Always worth doing it to eliminate this. I was convinced the sound on my civic was coming from behind the radio and it was the plastic rubbing on the windscreen.

Failing that as already mentioned you will have to strip your dash down and tape in the joins between panels. Use an oily dash cleaner like orange glo and squirt some down the joins it will act as a lubricant and clean your dash at the same time

Open the fuse box cover on both sides of the dash..... you'll see a screw there.. loose the screw a bit and and push the dashboard hard in and then tight the screw properly....... repeat the same on other side.... It'll fix most of the sounds.....
