Service - Am I missing anything?

Featured Replies

Going to service my vRS in April (first time I've done it myself, cue noob excitement! ). Apart from oil change, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter (not pollen filter as it was changed last year) and elephant mod (doing this at the same time as my service) is there anything else I need to check or clean or anything like that, or any tips you can give me? Getting the brakes done this weekend so brake fluid will be pretty much brand new so no issues there. Also, am I right in saying that you need a special tool to remove the oil filter? If so what would I be looking for?

Will have done 47k miles by the end of April. 2006 Fabia so BLT engine if that helps anyone.

Oil filter needs a big socket, can't remember the exact size but it's over 30mm, and an extension bar. Don't use an adjustable as you'll round off the hex head, it's made of nylon IIRC. Oh, and for 80p, get a new sump plug.

Mine takes a 1-1/4" socket to remove filter which is 32mm I think.

I'd replace the pollen filter anyway. I was surprised how black mine was after just one year.

Cool cheers for the replies. I'll have to check my pollen filter. I'm off to the south of France in the summer so may be a good idea to replace it possibly. Where can I get a sump plug for 80p?

Don't over tighten the sump plug, you can easily strip the thread.
