Crankcase ventilation hose change

Featured Replies

I'm sure it's been done somewhere but can't find it. Does anyone have a link to how to change the two hoses, or have a description on how to do this? The large one seems straight forward but the small one at the front seems a nightmare!

Thanks in advance

On which engine?

Sorry!, Mk 1 VRS It's the right one of the two pipes you can just see under the manifold. Does anyone have the part number for this?

Thanks again,

Paul

Ah, the Y pipe and the one underneath it. I have Creations Motorsport ones. Got mine on eBay.

I replaced the bottom 2 last night, Ebay numbers - 360543919325 and 360401187268.

You have to strip all the crap attached to the front of the inlet manifold, pretty fiddly. Clean out the bottom plastic hose too while ur in there, it will be full of gunk. On mine it was the small one that connects to the inlet that was split. It was the cause of the code p1136.

Can anyone let me know if there is a write up as to how to get to these hoses? Only asking because Skoda reckon it's a 4 hour job because they've got to take the whole manifold off! Is it possible to do this job without all that hassle and does anyone have a straight forward walk through for a not very mechanical person?

Thanks in advance

Paul

Where the dip stick is located remove the plastic trim you will see two 10mm nuts and two i think 5mm alen bolts undo these and disconect the electric sensor underneath to lift the metal plate out of the way take care not to break the dip stick case it will be brittle you will also need to disconect the sai hose from the air filter box and lift to the side this sould give you enough room to change the small hose if i were you i would replace both hoses and the plastic crank case tube under the inlet as they will all be in the same condition probably shot giving fault codes.

Ok, thanks a lot for this help. Bought one hose for £14 from dealer which is about 6" long with a 90 degree bend on each end. What other pipes do I need, and does anyone have the part numbers?

Thanks again,

Paul

Any more info on this one?

It's just the two together in one piece, it's on their website...

Wrong one, look at BH15 for the one-piece item that runs from crank breather elbow to PCV in the intake hose.

Really good that it removes the fragile plastic S-pipe.

BH15 isn't compatible with AUQ. You would have to put a bung in the tee-off half way down.

If your doing that 90 degree offset pipe, you may as well do the PCV valve and it's T piece housing also do the hard plastic 90 degree elbow breather off the oil filter housing.

Do the lot in one hit, as it will save you going back under there again, takes about an hour all in, no manifold off although it would be much easier.

You want parts 2,3,4.5.6.10 and some jubilee clips to replace the single stuff that will be on there. that lot should come in at around £40 IIRC

The single use things are the hardest bit to do, I found a very small flat head screwdriver under the loose end and twist does the job better than trying to get snips under there.

When you remove the bracket from the front of the manifold theres a little pipe on the left, if you unclip this from the manifold you'll find the whole plate moves further back allowing more access. When changing the hard plastic be careful as mine snapped in half no soon as I touched it I was lucky enough to just have enough left to pull the rest out of the hole, theres a circlip holding it in which you'll need to slacken off a bracket in front of it to get too it.

When re-fitting it all do it of the car and tighten it a little to allow you to adjust it all in place, and a 7mm socket on a wobble bar is far easier than a screwdriver for tightening all up when its in place, I'd remove the pipe that comes up to the Y pipe too and give that a check/clean out.

If theres anything else you want know just ask.

Thanks so much everyone. I'll tackle it this weekend if I can.

I already have a silicone Crankcase breather hose (Y pipe) and i have found a Silicone Lower breather Pipe, but I cant find an upgraded parts for number 2,3,4,6 and 10, are there such upgrades or would it just be a case of using standard parts for these parts ?

Just seems mad if I'm upgrading the others not to upgrade these ones aswell if possible

Put it this way mine have lasted over 100k.

The y pipe is worse. I would say it gets hotter than the others due to its position and the fact that it serves two places. You can get a eurojet( ithink) upgarded pcv holder and the 90 degree crank elbow bit. But you are probably looking at 3 times the price.

How long are you planning on keeping the car ??

im not 100% sure but I only do 5000 miles a year, so if the prices are that high I will just buy standard parts, at least I can pick them up from Skoda then..

I'll have a look for the upgraded ones to show you the difference when I get home. Bit tricky on the mobile !!

no worries mate, I'm still trying to find a part number for the actual standard lower breather pipe as the one up there ^^ has an additional pipe coming off it,

Sorry just checked again its 9A you want for the auq not number 9 which is for the AGU block

Oh right, looks like a perfect fit to me.

The T at the bottom end matches up (crankcase breather elbow and one-way valve to manifold) and the T in the middle matches up (rocker cover breather).

Sounds like Clive may have used one so he could confirm.

I've totally replaced the entire breather system twice since owning the car. Ended up with new OE everything (all hoses/pipes/valves/seals) now and a Viper top Y-hose. Seems to be performing perfectly.

Think I'll go for this SFS one-piece next time around.

Been a while since I fitted mine so I could be wrong, got no pics either :(

according to Skoda (I just called them) I need 9A which is £37 and 13 which was £15 or similar, but again my pipe is one piece, Im pretty sure this is the right pipe http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engine-Breather-Hose-for-VW-Mk4-Golf-Turbo-Audi-A3-TT-1-8T-Equiv-06A103213AF-/150991601816?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2327cd0098 would be great if anyone could clarify this part for me..

I also got a quote for pipe 2 which was £30 and by this point I mentioned it was expensive and even the parts guy said he wouldn't recommend me buying the parts from them.

where did you get all the parts for £40 Dave ? as from what I can see its gonna cost me a lot more :(
