heating/air con fan

Featured Replies

We have a 1.9TDI 2007, bought it here in France, its been a great car, now its done 140,000 kms, the fan had stopped working. There is a forum here in France, about this subject. Seems to have happened to lots of Roomsters here, especially 2007 models. I am alarmed as some owners have said it will cost €800 to install a new fan ???

I have searched the UK sites and cannot find anyone with the same problem, it appears to be a problem with french purchased cars.

Anyone else suffered this problem in UK and any idea why so expensive to replace.

The only thing that seemed to go wrong in Britain was the series resister failing.Luckily most people including me had it done under warranty. With failure of the series resistor the fan will only operate in top speed position. The dealer claimed that the whole dashboard had to come out to replace this little part.So I imagine its the same for the fan,and therefore a large part of the cost is down to labour.Unless anyone knows different?

Pretty sure they didn't take out the dashboard when ours was done recently. It's a fiddle but can be done with the upper glovebox and passenger airbag out, according to other threads. Of course that may be different on a left hand steer car.

I had an annoying whining from the fan - at first speed initially, then at higher speeds as well. Did a DIY replacement last year at 85 000 km. The new fan (OEM Hella) cost approximately 120 euros, i.e. no near 800 euros you have mentioned.

Can U explain how a DIY replacement of the fan is possible?

do u need to remove the lower glove box?

Our 2007 Roomy also stopped working on everything except full speed. Skoda approve warranty fixed it, so I don't know the cost, but I do know they didn't take the dash out as they didn't have the car long enough. Also there was a mark on the windscreen that I'm pretty sure was from someone's head pressed against the windscreen to see the resistor through the hole where the passenger airbag had been removed. That is consistent with the battery having been disconnected to do the job, as all of the windows had to be reset after I got the car back.
