So the most important question about the MKIII

Featured Replies

Have they designed the hatch this time so that the rain doesn't pour into the boot whenever you open it in or after rain ?

Serious design flaw on the Octavia II.

Thats really the most important question?! :giggle:

Obviously no one will no until they take a demo car out in the rain or recieve their one through. :)

Winds me up every-time I have to open a wet boot.

I don't understand the problem? I can't say I've ever had water running into the boot when I open it.

It looks like no change to me.

It was the same on the Mark I. The trick is to open it v… e… r… y s… l… o… w… l… y… :giggle:

and, difficult for some I know but don't wax it so the water sits in humungous great globules on the paint.

Park one of these next to your car, and switch on prior to opening the hatch ;)

A versatile solution, works also for snow :giggle:

I do understand the problem, but if that's the only shortcoming then we've got a cracking car on our hands! :D

If it's been raining I just tend to open it half-way, hold for a second or too, then let the boot hatch continue its journey skywards. Tends to work for me.

Not 100% ideal but then again, there's no such thing as the perfect car....

I should have checked this yesterday when I was at the dealership, they had one sitting

I'd be grateful to have a hatch over the saloon boot of my current car. I never really noticed the water problem on the vrs hatch, but miss the practicality of it. Octavia probably won't be on the company car list either.

Must go to dealers to have a look at one.

Opening it slowly isn't ideal if it is still raining, all the time you are waiting round for the water to run off you are getting wet yourself, also doesn't help when you open it and forget about that design flaw :wall:

Wash your mouth out

We're talking about a couple of seconds, but know what you mean. Other option is the slide-on edges that a couple of people have fitted to each side of the glass, to help stop the water running off the glass at the sides when you open the boot.

Not got around to trying those though. There was a thread about them somewhere....

Difficult to tell from the images, but it LOOKS as though the tailgate is more convex so the water should drain off.

Need a proper look to see.

Yep, would agree, does look that way. Boot lid definitely looks longer to me.

Hmm, I'll bet the chain tensioners will fail all over the place too ;)

Had a chance for good look at the hatch today at City Skoda. There is a much more pronounced slope on the tailgate, but the lip/mini spoiler might stop the run-off.

Hopefully they will have better door cards :) and more comfy seats in Vrs!

Sorry for asking, but what's a door card, and what is the problem??

Door card is what sits on the inside of the door :)

Issue is the material used along the top edge. It's quite soft on the Mk2 and prone to deforming.

OK, thanks. I have a 1.6D DSG Elegance for the weekend, so I will take a look then. (I would get a 2.0D manual Elegance if I decide to have one).
