Hit and Run - Pride and Joy Deceased

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Robbers crashed into my car today.

Any ideas on what to do?

Insurance or just scrap?

Seriously sad.

It's remapped, R32 arbs, GTi seats etc etc as good a nick as you can get for an 01 - engine smooth as silk!

Not sure what the process is like anymore but when i have had cars written off i have always bought them back off the insurance company for a minimal fee and then stripped them down and sold on the parts. Usually made a very good profit aswell.

Thanks

Guess I'm concerned about the insurance and losing all my years' no claims.

Could do without my premiums increasing by hundreds....

if the robbers did the off, and were not caught, then literally you have no one to claim against, so you will have to use your own insurance, which will increase on your renewal. Even if you have one of those direct line policies, that cover against this, you don't lose ncb, but you will still see an increase in premium.

Realistically, its not worth claiming, just sell it on for someone to break, or break it yourself.

If its a 4x4 and the parts are in good order i think you should have no problem shifting them you could make a few grand you might be surprised what people will buy off you. If you upgrade to freedom then you could post a list of items on here that you want to sell, or sell the lot for someone who wants a project track car. this should go some way to bridge the gap in your new insurance premium. Although again in my experience 'no claims' years are unimportant as long as you shop around.

It depends, the 4x4 like the vrs has a low value now, unless there are lots of goodies on it, you are not gonna get your money back quickly, and you are going to have a lot of work to break it, plus sit on parts forever.

Dont get me wrong, i would break it, i am currently infact, but thats a vrs, that i couldn't repair, and it has a lot more desirable bits in than a 4x4, plus i have all the tools, inc an engine hoist to do this. Dont undertake it in a weekend if you dont work with cars normally!

Aaaaaar fnuckin ***** !!!!!

Gutted for u

lol, lloyd, you really feel the pain with cars!

Was gonna say, swap rear beam but realised its a 4x4. What else has gone bar the bumper/rear axle?

Looking at that, it looks like a relatively easy fix.

Suspension is not designed to be hit where it was, so something has bent / snapped behind. Replace that part and the bumper and you're good to go.

Do not claim on your insurance, you will lose your NCB or end up paying the equivalent in increased premium anyway.

Bummer.

Looks like it could be repairable though.

If you were hit by uninsured types and don't claim on your own insurance you have nothing to worry about for your no claims, just strip the car and sell on the bits, OR get a few quotes and get it repaired or repair it yourself, doesn't look too bad, new suspension and a bit of paint etc.

It is a bummer.

I've had a look with a torch - might just be bumper and trailing arm...just(!)...probably £400 to £600 to fix. Just haven't got that!

Spent 4 hours cleaning the car 2 weeks ago....

Any damage to rear diff or haldex? Feel for you, must be horrible to deal with.

As said by others, get a couple if quotes then decide whats best. Unfortunately values are low, excesses are high and any claim puts premiums up for a few years.

Hope the robbers were caught, or better .

Well bumper could wait. Im sure folks on here may have spares to at least get you on the road cheaply.

Potential subframe damage... I wouldn't trust it...

unless you can repair yourself, and have access to cheap parts, its just not gonna be worth it unless the damage is really minimal...

hard to tell from pics!

There is some scum out there.

Hope its fixable.

Min lower and upper arm broken to get that angle

Might be an easy fix and cheap

Get wheel off and send me some pics I will see what bits I've got in the bat cave

plus bumper, bumper trim, plus tailight, plus repair to tailgate (unless he is lucky and it didnt damage that), and paint for other parts including rear quater, plus misc suspension parts

breakers dude skoda land in leeds are on line i think :)

its not just parts, paint costs approx 150 a panel, so if he needs bumper, rear quater painting thats 300 alone (unless he can get a matching bumper), and assuming the tailgate hasnt been touched.

Are hatch and estate bumpers different? I have an estate bumper in dark blue 9460 here
