Stage 2, little advice

Featured Replies

I have been quite contempt with stage 1 for a while now, but after a few bit have fallen towards my lap I have been putting my mind towards stage 2.

First things first..

Is stage 2 worth it? Is it worth all the money and will I see much gains?

Do I need the FMIC?

At 160k would I be pushing it?

FMIC is pretty much a must with most Sage 2 maps IIRC.

Don't know your Stage 1 figures but my Stage 2 figures are 235bhp & 301ft/lbs. can't comment on Stage 1 to 2 as I went straight from Stage 0 to 2 :)

Yeah do it :D

Why not lol

Full exhaust sounds goooood

Fmic looks goooood

Cai sounds gooooood

Stage 2 goooood :D

For any stage 2 you will definatly need a sports cat or de-cat with a better flowing down pipe if you dont already have one ,you can go stage 2 with out front mount but the inlet temps will be dangerous when the weather warms up unless you have a well ventilated bigger side mount thats why people fit the front mount it cools the inlet temp the best but gives slight lag, at the end of the day they arnt cheap and if you search the mk4 golf gti sites some say turbo revs side mount intercooler £100 on ebay give good results if you intend to keep it k03s.But some say the forge front mount at £500+ , most on here run forge front mount so will recomend these as they have seen good results .As for your millage as long as the turbos good you should be ok as you are already stage 1 but if its the original turbo it could let go at any time being old, these engines are pretty much bullet proof if serviced correctly and cooled corectly.

ebay fmic is the way forward  hows your clutch

I wouldn't risk a stage 2 map without making sure my temps would be kept down. Could kill your turbo quite quickly I'd imagine. Fmic's Dont have to be expensive either. I got mine for 300 which isn't awful. But the eBay coolers are obviously super cheap and people have got good results with them. Just depends on how good the pipework is.

I've read you can go stage 2 with the stock side mount ic if you want, the problem is the temps will go sky high and so the ecu will drop the boost, and therefore the power and you will more than likely end up running less power than you have now.

I personally wouldn't risk going stage 2 on a stock or aftermarket sidemount. Save up and get either an ebay fmic kit or a good condition used Forge or Pro alloy (or similar) fmic.

Well I currently have stage 1 with a decat and the standard cat back. But I have been offered an allard FMIC and Milltek cat back. I have changed the DMF to a SMF. I don't have the CAI, but I am running a drilled box with relocated piping. So far, does this all sound right?

Personally buddy if you want to get the best from a stage 2 map get:

1. Decent free flowing exhaust system, plus either a decat or sport cat(as std downpipe is carp)

2. A good upgraded SMIC or FMIC to keep temps down and give constant full benefit of the map in all conditions. (std side mount not up to it)

get the allard FMIC they are top notch...

As your engine is done 160k should not be a issue if well looked after and regular oil changes etc ...

Mine is approaching 150k now and been going strong on stage 2 for few years now.

Going stage 2 from stage 1 is like night and day, simple..you will love it

question on air temps even on stock are the inlet manifold gaskets worthwhile? the thicker ones from awesome?

think there the new south ones??? power gasket £54

New south ones are rubbish !!!

Phenolic ones from badger 5 only ones that work

So with the bits I plan to get, I should be all good to go then?

Main thing I worry about is I have a small boost surge in 3rd. I have done all the necessary changes but it is still there.

May be able to get that mapped out.

Normally it is always better to get car mapped in a good working order though, as mapping can amplify poor running more..

Well I plan to go to Rtech this time for my stage 2. But it is at the drop off of the turbo at about 4500 + range just blips 3 times.

You'll be in safe hands at R-Tech :)

lmao saw the evo shield not the badger 5 :)

Will I need the CAI? Or will a drilled and re-routed box do with a new/upgraded panel filter do?

r-tech will require

good quality induction kit with heat sheild

turbo back exhaust

fmic with 2.5 inch pipework , for best flow possible and not a smic

good quality d.v not a blow of valve

turbo intake pipe

benocty... Not Ben from R-Tech?!

the awesome ones are neuspeed now and apparently work well and nowhere near as thick as badger 5 ones be interested to know if anyone has awesome one fitted????????????
