Blue Smoke......

Featured Replies

well everything is worth checking, but if exhaust is chucking out blue smoke, its coming from somewhere and through the engine.

iif the car has used on 5w30 then maybe 10w40 your not supposed to convert back but sure the 5w 30 magnatec is for zetec use as not a long life oil????

i'd try 5w 40 or 10w 40 like dealers use on service now for older vehicles cheaper option i think , could be the oil is just too thin especially if wrong spec etc

That would be great if the oil was just too thin. I didn't know you you could use 10w 40 in them. Will call out to skoda garage today for oil and filter.

Cheers for all the input!

JUST REGULAR SERVICING LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET ON LIKE I SAY I USE 5W 40 AT 141,000

Got 5 litres of 5w40 quantum and filter. €52 from dealers. They said something about vrs older than 02 using slightly different oil to the later ones.

We'll see how that goes.

:) same as mine :)

thats expensive for oil from the dealer...52euors...ow!

Yeah, I thought so! that's 5 litres a filter and sump plug too though.

still seems a fair bit, stopped buying my oil from main dealers, even with a trade discount its expensive.

Oh, plus a throttle body gasket, thought I'd give that a clean too. I don't mind paying a little extra because they're so close, they happen to be a really decent crowd and seem to know their stuff, that and the local motor factors is a bit of a rip off so probably about the same price anyway.

Fingers crossed that improves things, hard to see any smoke these days with the wind and rain but I'm pretty sure it hasn't miraculously fixed itself.

Check your vacuum system because they are prone to leaks, especially at check valve under the inlet manifold, T connection were the pipe from oil filter is connected to S pipe and inlet manifold.

I had blue smoke coming from the exhaust because valve stem seals where leaking oil into combustion chamber but after repairing head the oil consumption only slightly decreased. Oil was leaking from T connection.

Gonzaga, How did the repair go? did you DIY or get somebody to do it?

There are a few wet pipes around alright, I was contemplating doing a few of the simplifications to remove the crap from the engine bay.

You can either remove the jungle of pipes under the manifold but then you have to map it out of the ECU or buy this; http://www.034motorsport.com/engine-components-18t-breather-hose-kit-mk4-18t-awwawpawv-reinforced-silicone-p-19987.html

On this link there are all the part numbers of OEM pipes if you go OEM route.

I have bought this kit with metal check valve and since then no leaks

As for the valve seals, I had to remove the head off the engine to do it properly because I wanted complete overhaul of the head. I think you can do without removing it but I am not 100% sure about that.

What I forgot to mention is that kit from 034motorsport eliminates a possibility of leaks because it is in one piece not like OEM one which is in 3.

I am referring to the pipe from oil filter=>T piece=>S pipe

Be great to here how you get on.

It's something I'll have to do to tidy up around that area anyway. I don't seem to be getting any running issues from them but there must be some bad joints/ leaks as there are a lot of oily pipes below the inlet manifold.

Yeah I'm thinking if that valve ain't working right it may create a wonky pressure somewhere that may cause oil too burn .....maybe, I'm far from knowing what I'm on about here to be honest !!

Just read my post.... *hear :giggle:

Yeah, I can see how it could be easily upset.

I can't see that being my problem really though as it only does it at idle or just after.
