I'm hoping some of you can help answer the queries I have.

MDI interface....is this a necessity for playing music from iphone or is there another way of doing it?

Spare wheel/spacesaver...how does having one impact on the boot space/floor height?

I haven't been to see the yeti in person as yet, having only decided this week that its probably the car for me.

I live in the sticks so nearest dealer is 125 miles away (and I'm not impressed by the reviews they get!).

I'll likely pay them a visit to see how it goes but I'm wondering if internet broker is an option. Can you do p/ex with them?

Thanks,

Marie

Hi Marie.

MDI is useful in that you can control your device, scroll contents etc. but it's certainly not the only way to listen to your music. Most (all?) models have an aux input to allow you to feed the audio signal from the headphone jack, but this gives no control over the player (or track information). You can also stream via bluetooth, if you have the bluetooth option.

Spare wheel / raised floor is something you really have to see for yourself. To me, it provides the neatest option because it removes most of the load lip & boot floor sits almost level with folded rear seats. Unfortunately for me, it isn't compatible with the internal bike carrier that I will be transferring from my old car.

Internet brokers are just that, they broker the deal between you and a main dealer. The main dealer will still be able to negotiate a trade-in price as normal but beware that the dealers that take part in this game are the ones who go for high volume / low margins - they won't want / have space for a stack of trade-ins to clear so expect a good price only if you've got a car that he/she really wants & can sell quickly, otherwise it's probably off to the trade at a suitably low price.

Also bear in mind that the dealers that go for high volume via brokers can exceed their quotas at times, so you may have to wait longer for your car (though I think sales volumes are generally so low at present that this is less likely to be an issue)

Top advice from S-A-C!

I'd add that the MDI isn't a high cost item and does give real versatility certainly the best connection/control for iPhone/pod

Check out the car and choose your model then buy from a good dealer who will either deliver or you can travel down to them and make a trip out of a purchase-I'm sure the advantages of living on Skye are accompanied by some inconveniences.

I'm hoping some of you can help answer the queries I have.

That'll be the well known Mr A Shark in Inverness then

Many thanks guys for the replies, much appreciated and very useful too.

I've had a dealer on the phone via carfile.net and it looks promising as the figures for p/ex and yeti purchase appear to be ok.

Could be a 3 month wait for my yeti option though.

I'm going to ponder it over the weekend and let them know on monday.

It would probably be wise for me to visit Inverness this weekend if weather permits and get up close and personal with a yeti

Then I will know for sure if its the right purchase for me.

Yes, a good covering of snow, as forecast, would really be best for a long test drive :giggle: and Yetis are always close and personal!

Car file are very good I have used them. Father and son team

So I'm looking at 1.2 TSI Elegance in candy white with panoramic sunroof, heated windscreen, spare wheel, floor mats.

I didn't see the MDI option on carfile website.

Debated over satnav but couldn't decide...certainly dont need it up here as there aren't many roads to get lost on

Identical to mine except for the colour and windscreen. Great car

Second this. I'm pretty sure they will be able to add the MDI option manually.

Re sat nav - if you seldom use it, and have a smart phone with navigation capability, use the smart phone instead. Even without MDI, you can get the verbal instructions to come through the car speakers via Bluetooth. Often, I just dump my phone in the top dashboard box, and go by the verbal instructions alone.

Yes I was thinking I could just use my phone when sat nav is required.

Might ask about MDI too before placing order, or I think I'm right in believing I can just use an sd card for music.

I think I'm right in believing I can just use an sd card for music.

You are correct. You can put in a big SD card. The only slight disadvantage is the relatively limited range of formats supported, although of course the essential mp3 is there.

My wife has got a screen stand for her phone, and uses that whenever she needs sat-nav.

Why doesn't the UK brochure have useful snippets of information like this....

Cleared the remaining finance on my current car today, so I'm on a mission now to get things moving

Barring any disasters I'll go over to Inverness tomorrow for a look, doubt if they'll match the carfile deal but we'll see. At least I can get a good look at the yeti inside and out and fine tune my options.

Take them a bottle of Talisker Marie, and you might be able to "sweeten" a deal .

Ha, think i might need more than one bottle

Could still be worth it!!

  • Author

Here's a crate of talisker, now what deal can you do me on a yeti mr salesman?

Just a thought but it might be worth considering adding the rough road pack (additional underside protection) as the petrol engined Yeti's don't even have the limited protection of a insulation cover underneath the engine bay.

It might be worth a visit just to see a Yeti or 2 in the flesh, but I wouldn't expect them to get anywhere near Carfile's price (and if you've read the Yeti brochure, or browsed the Skoda website, you'll already know more about the car than they do :giggle: ).

I don't think you can order a 1.2 Tsi Yeti with the Panoramic sunroof AND spare wheel. Apparently it is due to weight and CO2 outputs, the weight of both options would put the 1.2 Tsi into a higher tax rating.

I think that only applies to DSG version.

I was sadly the one that was caught out by that - I think it does only apply to DSG & possibly Elegance as well - I ordered my first one just as the rules changed - no one noticed at buyacar's dealer and it never arrived.

Truscotts Skoda Helston, noticed an asterisk on the brochure about it and I had a dealer fit on the spare tyre & raised boot floor - job done !

Well I went to dealer and had a proper look at the yeti.

Definitely want to get one now

They gave me a cost to change price and it was nowhere near the deal I was offered via carfile. They are now trying to 'work something out' but doubt if they can get anywhere close. I'll give them a couple of days as I'm still thinking about spec changes.

Not sure if I want leather seats so might go with SE plus, but by the time I add all the extras I do want I'm pretty much at same price as the elegance

Its the satnav that's bothering me most. What's the diff between the columbus and amundsen, does anyone know?
