Just guessing but possible fuel starvation? Fuel pump or pressure regulator maybe?

If it is the above surely it should occur if the engine is cold or warm. As if I park on the drive and move the car when the engine is drive I have no issues. I only have the issue when the engine is stone cold I.e overnight.

As I say just guessing really, it is a strange one.

Has this only started since the cold weather or has it been doing it all year?. If it is only since the cold snap, then I would do a resistance check on the glow plugs and depending on the results, a physical examination of them. They do not stop working as soon as the lamp goes out, they still have an effect on the car so this may be a clue to your problem, as you are putting a high cold load on the system reversing up a 10% slope from cold.

I'm sure it was doing it in more warmer weather but maybe not so pronounced.

Have you tried letting the car warm up before trying to move it ?

I thought it was a bad thing to leave a car idling bud did let the car idle for a couple of seconds today and manged to get off drive with out stalling

I had Bora 130tdi (brand new in 2003), and it was like that from New, 1st 1/4 of a mile, no power until it warmed a little. Fine if you were setting off on the flat.
