Should I Get a Scout now.

Featured Replies

There hasn't been any confirmation that there will be a Octavia III scout yet. The old one is still available as a new buy. Should I take the plunge now? What sort of discount should I expect for an outgoing model? I think list price is 23-24k for a DSG? Perhaps I should wait, but if a bargain were on the table It would be tempting.

The actual Scout is rumoured to be around this time next year.

There will be a 4x4 this year but not a Scout.

Hope that helps.

Snow on the ground, bad weather forecast. Not a good time to buy a 4x4 unless you're desperate.

Scouts have actually increased in price over the recent months.

Fewer available, winter, no confirmed arrival of the new model = increased demand.

There was a thread not so long back where a dealer was prepared to talk discounts on every model in the range, except the Octavia Scout.

He wouldn't budge an inch - because he didn't have to.

Do you need the boot space in the Scout? The reason I ask is prices on nearly new Yeti's have dropped nicely over the last 12 months making them cheaper than the Scout, and better specced when in Elegance form.

I'm keeping an eye on Scouts, the wife already has one and I will eventually replace my vRS with one - but not at the current prices. £23K gets you alot of car from other manufacturers (Kia Sportage etc.). Skoda are quickly distancing themselves from their low / budget pricing.

Don't expect the Octavia Scout MkIII to be anywhere near as good value as the MkII. It'll be a good chunk more expensive too.

Get one now if you really want one - while you can!

Hi

I was terribly disappointed with the new Octavia so the new Scout will not be much different and no doubt even more expensive, so I've been looking at two MkII Scout, ex demo diesels with manual box in standard spec in silver metallic.

I've had two offers to part-ex my Roomster and I was quite surprised how far I could push the figures:-

1. List price of £18990 and balance to change of £13800 - equates to saving off list price of £600

2. List price of £20980 and balance to change of £13500 - equates to saving off list price of £2500

I didn't think this was too bad really. If you're looking at new then two different dealers offered me £2000 off list without any haggle whatsoever, so there's room for movement.

Any losses made on the screen price of the Scout will be baked into the P/X price of the Roomster.

There will be more scope for negotiation on an ex demo vs. brand new too.

Yeah they're the equivalent of the £2000 off I mentioned.

My Roomster is only worth about £4500 so they haven't much to play with - they will have to take out more from their car than I will lose.

That's reasurring to know, you gonna take the plunge Chubbs!?

I took our Scout to work the other day and it is a great 'pothole eater', makes the vRS feel like it's got no suspension at all!

I'd love a scout, as a taxi.

Maybe in a few years

Yeah, may do. No what you mean about the vRS, never thought I'd see the day when I wanted comfy seats and suspension. Our Yeti is great for the pot-holed roads of Yorkshire, so could do with the another great ride.

Thought about another Yeti but two in one family doesn't seem quite right and the driving position in the Octavia is slightly better for me.

The only things I'm hesitant about are the lower mpg, higher VED band and general running costs, but I could live with it I guess!

Thanks for the discussion guys and the Simpsons link is great silver1011. I am tempted. As much as I like the yeti I think I need the Estate shape for my requirements (camping & hiking with the dog) and the Yeti is nice but I like the Scout shape much more. Perhaps Its time to take the plunge! Also I'd really like a sunroof but I guess thats not going to happen.

Why were you disappointed with the mkiii chubbs?

A sunroof on any MkII Octavia is a rare thing, finding a Scout (which is also a rare thing) with a sunroof would be even harder.

It might be worth popping into your local dealer. They can check on their system for any Scout in the country at any UK franchised dealer.

If you do get one I'll be very jealous!

Indeed.

Like rocking-horse ****.

My wife keeps suggesting we sell ours as its just out of warranty, although she confesses its been great in the snow and has a sunroof too; but it's a long time to wait to replace it with an Octavia III Scout. Seeing the red vRS estate lookalike with black optics and wheels I'm smitten, but will be so disappointed if they bling up the new Scout with chrome.

I saw a 'colour coded' Scout the other day.

Someone had painted the plastic bumpers and wheel arch surrounds the same colour as the bodywork (silver).

It actually looked really, really good!

Went through the same thought process & have put a Skoda extended warranty on ours.

The Jury is still; out for me on the Mk 3, I need to see an ordinary estate but I think it might just be to big. If the prices are also being hiked as much as predicted then it will bring other manufacturers into the frame. A skoda still cant demand high prices & I can see depreciation being a real issue if new prices are to high. Still time will tell

I like the honesty of the two-tone look and it reminds me of my first generation Audi allroad (long since gone). Before Audi hit upon the idea of body coloured mouldings, one of the tuners did the whole of his (wife's) allroad in Nogaro Blue. It looked awesome, and I just wish VAG was a bit more adventurous with their colours for larger cars. I still want a bright yellow two-tone Scout, but it wouldn't work with the chrome roof rails on the Octavia III.

I personally thought the normal 4x4 was a quality car. I contemplated one for a while but by the time I was in a market for a new Octavia they'd ceased production so went for a vRS.

Seriously rare bits of kit and less showy than a Scout in a good way; for me the Scout is a bit of a budget A4 Allroad and is really not my bag; if you could find a newish 1.8 TSi with some spec that'd be such a great car.

Magic black? Mine is, looks excellent when clean, but it's never clean.

The colour-coded bumper look can be seen between the discover 3 and discovery 4. I'm torn between the two. One looks far tougher, the other just looks cleaner and better.

Yes Black Magic I will be always dirty!

As an aside how does the ESP work do the scout all have ESp. Can it be turned off?
