Valeo smf kit feedback.......

Featured Replies

I have just reserved one through euro car parts as they have 20% on atm. Taking the price down too £371 which i thought was very fair. Have many people run these kits? Mine is running a stage 1 shark map at 165bhp. Old clutch has no slip but flywheel chatter annoying so going to fit now instead of any issues. So yeah any feedback would be brill as picking up tomorrow after work :-)

I have tried before mate, but promo not available for some unknown reason. Cheers though :-)

Have you got a Valeo clutch with it or is it just the flywheel? I think you need both for it to work (I think!) e.g Valeo flywheel won't mate up with oem clutch.

smf and dmf clutch plates are both different any way so the lot will need changing when converting

Its a full kit with smf, clutch kit and bolts included too. Only thing extra is a concentric slave cylinder which is about £30ish. So really not a bad price.

Got this clutch in mine olly. Top notch! replaced it with my dual mass as it started to slip a little! It doesn't I REPEAT. DOESN'T CHATTER ON IDLE!

is the clutch uprated to take more power or just the flywheel?

This is a well balanced conversion kit - not just a random collection of parts that happen to fit together. There is SLIGHTLY more noise on idle, but those beefy anti-chatter springs on the pressure plate do their job.

Yes as baldwin says, there is a slight noise. but the engine IMO covers up the noise. I'd say it does as i'm pushing 180 bhp and mines put up with the pressure no problems at all.

Brilliant, thank you for the feedback. I just picked it up and got a new slave cylinder too fit also. Does the pedal feel much different compared to normal dmf. I think its a great price and a proper kit for the job. Just need to get a free day at work to fit it :-)

Nope same pressure feel, honestly you wont be disappointed with it. :)

Can someone point me in the direction of this, it doesn't appear when I put my reg in on ECP

Thanks

I,ve had my SMF in now for 30K and its great !! It was replaced at 35K.

Very smooth, quiet and much more responsive with a nice bite on the clutch now.The gear changes are very silky. At idle my engine is very quiet and there is absolutely no chatter at all.My engine has quietened down so much since having this fitted compared to the god awful DMF before.

You won,t regret it at all.Enjoy :).

Tech838 it should be under smf conversion section. Sometimes have to use a computer as my phone internet would'nt load full site always. I have just got to find a day to fit mine now. Glad people rate them and big improvements over dmf :-)

Any links to this would it cope with over 200bhp?

I might just be being inept but I cant find this anywhere, they only seem to stock dual mass.

Even tried a golf Mk4 and they're all dual mass there too.

Definitely EuroCarParts ?

Ideal what about slave cylinder?

Brilliant thanks for that

anyone know which concentric slave cylinder that matches this kit? I can only find a LUK one on ECP.

Would it affect fitting whether I have an oem Sachs or LuK as standard?

I sent Valeo technical a message asking about how much torque their SMF conversion could handle, here is the answer (for what it's worth):

Hi Paul,

I have attached some literature for you to peruse over regarding the benefits of solid flywheel conversions.

In answer to you question regarding the torque value through the transmission, I can confirm that all conversion kits manufactured by Valeo have been engineered to withstand the original manufacturer's tolerance's - the exception being of course is if the engine has been modified or re-tuned to produce a greater output.

In short, the main advantage of Solid Flywheel Conversion's over Dual Mass Flywheels is better " heat soak " ( thermal transfer) from drive plate to flywheel, and removing the cost element of replacing costly DMF when replacing the clutch unit.

If you do need any further advice please don't hesitate to contact.

Ok had my Valeo kit fitted now. it feels very different to the standard dmf that's for sure, not sure if its just because I'm not use to it.

But it feels rather jolty if the revs aren't matched perfectly for the gear changes. Pulling away in first seems more hard work and vibrates a fair bit and I get a buzzing/vibration around 2k rpm.

Generally is there a wear in period for a clutch? I bought the kit 2nd hand with apparently 500miles from eBay, it came off a fabia vrs (maybe a member on here)

I was gonna bid on that. Seller seems genuine and from the photo's the kit looked like new but he did tell me he was running a stage 2 map and it was slipping so he removed it, that kinda put me off.
