Awaiting delivery of my new Scout!

Featured Replies

Just ordered a new scout DSG last week. I was very surprised on the test drive how quiet and refined the 2.0 CR engine is. After I drove away on the test I forgot I was in a diesel, (i've always had petrol before). I'm was very impressed. I've rented lots of cheapish diesels in the past and they were tractors in comparison! Is the CR engine the same thoughout the VW group cars? I'd be interested in opinions about the CR engine with DSG. My demo model was manual.

Anyway its a standard car as I had to buy a pre built one to get a good deal. its got a spare wheel though. What should I be thinking about when it comes to extras? Are there any glaring omissions in the stand car? They'd have to be retro fit as the dealer will have to fit them?

  • I like the look of the carpet ones magicknight75, I'll have to brush the mud off, but I don't mind that. Did a 55 mile journey today, 45.9 average mpg, nice. Dab radio is working well, not ideal hid

Well done paddypaws just made to jump back to a scout on the same deal but mine will be a manual Had a 2.0fsi before and I'm trading in the vrs 170 cr so the come down to the 140 shouldn't be too bad

  • I recommend the rubber floor matts. Especially if you take it dirty places (which you have to, it is a scout afterall).

Xenons is something I would always want to spec if I has the opportunity to buy a new car. Although these are very hard to fit afterwards.

Reverse park sensors, multi function steering wheel and Bluetooth and sunset tinted windows.

Congrats on your new car, always liked Scouts, what colour you getting?

Thanks for the reply its Black Magic. Will be lovely when shiney, but will always look dirty!

It has parking sensors as far as I know as standard. Xenons and an uprated bluetooth/ satnav stereo are a good thought!

I've got the DSG coupled to the CR in my Blackline and it's not a bad combination (that said, I still prefer a manual but that is personal preference). It is very relaxed & smooth around town but can get a bit confused when pressing on - but slipping it into Sport mode improves things dramatically.

So far my impressions of the CR engine are also favourable. I'm comparing it to a 1.9 Cdti (16v) from my old Vectra, along with the 2.0 PD that was in my '07 plate Audi A6 Avant, and numerous miles in 1.9 PD engined job cars (I'll not start on the shocking excuse of a diesel that Ford throw into their Focus). I find the CR quite refined (for a 4-pot oil burner) with a healthy dollop of torque available throughout the rev range. It also has a nice little growl when pressing on a bit. Fuel economy on a run is good, however I am a little disappointed by its consumption in urban use - but then it is a 170 bhp engine.

Overall its not a bad combination and will probably suit the Scout quite well. I'm a bit of a control freak hence my preference for a manual, that said now I've finally managed to wrestle the car back from the wife, I am starting to realise that there is a bit of a knack of using the DSG properly and it just means a slight adaption of my driving style.

Does the DSG Scout not already come with MFSW?

I am almost sure its only the 140hp engine in the scout though?

Thanks for the review of the CR chappers. I don't think there is a MFSW and I also think the engine is the 140bhp. Not sure if the radio is FM or DAB?

Edited by paddypaws

The engine will be the 140bhp, but I gather that it's basically the same engine as the 170 version so the characteristics should be very similar (just not quite as quick).

I was lead to believe that the only Octavia (UK versions) that came with DAB either as standard or optional was the Blackline, although that might have been my dealer being mistaken. I was guessing about the MFSW - the vRS manual has a standard wheel, the DSG is MFSW ;)

Your car will have been built some time ago. Back in April I was unable to order a new Scout built to order. So the only options available will be dealer fit.

Congratulations paddypaws, I nearly never replied due to the jealousy :giggle:

The Scout is already well specced as standard (Climatronic, Bolero, auto lights and wipers, cruise control, hillhold, auto dimming mirror, parking sensors (rear) and sunset privacy glass).

Bluetooth and steering wheel controls are a factory fit extra (even with DSG), although you will have Maxidot.

DAB comes with the Amundsen Sat Nav unit and isn't standard on the Scout.

As the Scout already has projector headlights and the headlight washers you could fit an aftermarket HID kit if you want xenon's.

Make sure the textile floor mats are fitted and check the storage cubbyhole in the boot for the securing nets.

Mudflaps don't fit the Scout (without being adapted) so as far as dealer fit extra's you are limited.

One option I wish I had (especially on my Black Magic Scout) is the silver roof rails. They look good against the black paint and privacy glass.

Another option I'd have gone for is the LED DRL's in leiu of the front fog lights (who uses them anyway!?), only because they look cool. I'm sure these can be retrofitted.

And finally I'd look at getting the 'two colour' Proteus alloys, they look great (although the standard alloys with their polished spokes look fab in the sun when clean) - but beware they won't last long. The alloys on the Scout are renowned for delaminating, try a search.

Take a look at your other thread paddy, the picture of my Scout shows the aluminium look bumper protector (I won't post the picture again as this thread is waiting for pics of your Scout!). This is worth it's weight in gold for protecting the bumper and again looks good against the black paint (and would compliment the roof rails too if they were silver!).

Thanks silver 1011! I'll look at getting the silver bumper protector it looks great Where did it come from? I will get a second set of alloys because I want winter tyres.

By the way what is Bolero and Maxidot ?

Just looked it up. Bolero is the radio is that a good one?

Maxidot is the display between the rev counter and speedo? Does it do lots of useful stuff?

See here for the bumper protector...

Bolero is a good quality stereo, touchscreen, gets plenty of praise on here.

Maxidot provides more detailed info (doors open etc.) allows you to adjust things like 'one press of the keyfob opens all doors or only drivers door', coming / leaving home headlights, anti hi-jack (auto lock over 15mph), adjustments for winter tyres etc. etc.

Good for you magicknight75! The 140 cr seemed pretty nippy on the test drive! Mine is ordered from Garlands http://www.garlandskoda.co.uk/ I don't have a date for delivery yet, the shipping company are going to confirm a delivery date this week. When is yours due?

I recommend the rubber floor matts. Especially if you take it dirty places (which you have to, it is a scout afterall).

Still waiting for call back from dealer to confirm delivery date but said 2 to 3 weeks

had a choise of silver or black so it had to be black again

rubber mats are really good quality from dealer im sure they can do you a deal on them my last set have lasted me 5 years already but will be asking for another set for the new one

I have the rubber floor mats but got cheesed off with them not securing properly. The carpet mats click into place but the rubber ones just locate on the lugs in front of the seats and always come loose within a few miles of driving. Are the ones you have secured in any way?

Magicknight75, I got offered white or black in the DSG, I wanted to think about it and the next day they only had black left! Did you get anything else thrown in with the deal? I didn't but the car happened to have a spare wheel already fitted so that would normally be extra. I think carpet mats come with the car as far as I know. I think i'll stick with carpet mats as they make the interior nicer looking, although I do a lot of outdoors muddy stuff!. My current carpet mats brush off fine when the get muddy.

The 170 does differ mechanically from the 140 i believe, different turbo and injectors I believe.

Only the vRS DSG comes with an MFSW, the Scout unless optioned would come with a normal leather four spoke; no paddles or ought. Is possible to retrofit one though

i didnt get any extras thrown in as i only had that day to decide on the car

ill be having a towbar fitted and another set of mats i also got the spare wheel but i think thats all it comes with

looking forward to getting it

I have the dealer supplied rubber mats and sure I removed the rubber from the mats to leave holes that locate perfectly on the plastic locators fitted to the floor. I recall they needed a push with a key and they popped out, seemed to be designed to do that. Before I did this they wouldn't stay in place.

I have mine just sitting on the locating pegs. I believe they are supposed to be pierced through to lock on, but I haven't had the need as the edges of the footwell also keep them in place. They haven't moved yet.

Maybe you fidget too much?

Mine are located on the pegs too but always seem to pop off very quickly. So, maybe your are right and I just fidget too much after all.
