Not keen on the Octavia III add running on UK TV.

Two reasons.

1.    Every time I see the add I know it’s the consumer that pays for it and in the case of the Octavia III this is where all the extra money from the new upmarket pricing structure goes. Always remembering that with the removal of IRS from a large part of the model range the move upmarket lacks some credibility.

2.    This type of humourless, aspirational - wouldn’t you just love to live the beautiful, perfect life of our beautiful, perfect, smug family gies me the dry boak.

The last TV car add I actually liked was the one for the 1979/1980 Escort Harrier. Can’t find any clips of this on internet but my recall is Mk2 Escort, vroom vroom, forest tracks, much sideways action, gravel flying everywhere and said Escort flying through the air. Bear in mind though was a teenager at the time.

Every manufacture has an advertising budget and when you launch a new car you have to get the best exposure to make the public aware of your new product.

To sell a product the advertising agencies aim at the certain age groups etc, so Skoda are aiming the Octavia at 'smug families' as you put it, because they believe that is the market that will buy it. These market is probably the people who are currently buying BMW, Mercedes etc and they would like to tempt them away.

so, Coca Cola, Frosties, Holidays, Mars bars etc. ect, ect would all cost less if the company didn't spend money on advertising - oh and they probably wouldn't exist.

Simple answer.....................don't watch it then!!

The advert looks a bit cheapskate to me. One advert for all markets with only the voice over getting changed and to top it all off there's a note to say that UK specification is different, well I hope so, you don't want to buy one to find out that the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

SUK probably also covering themselves due to no chrome, no reversible boot floor, no decorative strip on front bumper and no front assist for loyal early bird customers! :bandit:

I take you missed the Yeti advert then.

Driving down the road with ghost like animals trotting alongside the car and pretend puddles, oh dear.
