Errors are retrofit

Featured Replies

Have just fitted Columbus to replace Bolero in my Yeti. Following code errors show up in navigation and radio.

Obviously the cd changer no longer exists so not concerned about that. The other one I'm not sure off. The telephone is showing no faults and appears to work fine.

This microphone fault relates only in navigation and radio. Should I worry about it or not.

Have you cleared the fault codes and rebooted the Columbus (<, > & mic) and seen if either of the fault codes come back?

00857: a change of wiring in the loom can make the external CD changer work with a Columbus (although I'm surprised that one was factory fitted with a Bolero anyway as that has a 6-disc changer built in).

Or have you removed the external changer as well (but left the wiring in place)?

Do you have MDI or Aux input? If so it could be that wiring causing the issue. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00857

I can't find anything on the mic wiring issue ATM but wonder if the its because the Columbus is expecting a different route for the wires. http://www.my-gti.com/1234/volkswagen-rns-510-microphone-connection-for-voice-control

The Columbus can work with an external changer and MDI (mine does), so I suspect that the faults just need clearing and the unit rebooting.

Thanks for that. Basically the Bolero had the built in cd changer so I now have no cd changer. Perhaps there is somewhere in the coding to delete it. I don't have the separate unit in the boot so the error message was to be expected. I've done a bit of research into the Columbus and there is voice control for the Columbus.

The blue tooth skoda unit works fine for the telephone but it appears that if I want to use the voice control for the Columbus I need to splice into the wiring at the back of the unit and run cabling from/to microphone and skoda bluetooth unit. I believe this was mentioned by someone in one of my other posts prior to fitting the unit.

To be honest it's not worth messing around with the wiring just to allow the occasional voice message to change the radio station, so I won't bother. Interested to know if there's a way that I can eliminate the errors showing up whenever the diagnostics are run, but if not I will just live with it,. Thanks for your input.

The first error about the CD changer should disappear as the Bolero unit has been removed.

Have you cleared the fault codes and rebooted the Columbus?

I can't recall exactly, but I think there is a tick box in VCDS for activating voice control. If there is, then unpicking this will probably resolve the second issue as well.

Remember to reboot the Columbus after any changes.

I notice you have retro fitted front and rear parking sensors. Did you DIY . I have rear but would like to fit front and link into Columbus display. Other than going up to Bradford I can't find anyone local who can do it,. Was yours done locally.

Pretty local - I did it with my Dad helping out (he did the soldering, I did everything else).

Mine was a complete retro-fit kit though, so I had no issues with having to swap wires over or add wires, etc.

All I had to do was patch into the CAN wires (mine was above the driver's footwell) and into the ESP switch (for illumination of the PDC button).

You'll need a new PDC controller and quite a bit of time on your hands.'adamal' on here has (I believe) finished converting his into OPS.

I retrofitted the OPS display but not the front and rear sensors (which I had already), although a few others' input on here was crucial as you will see below. You will as kb says need a new module (see www.carsystems.pl) and but you can also get the sensors there too. My post has loads more details and happy to advise further.

Sounds too much for me. I need to find somewhere to purchase the correct kit and get a specialist to fit it. Any links to the kit supplier.

Carsystems.pl do the kit too, although I think they are on eBay too.

I currently have rear sensors only which provide an optical display on the Columbus. Will I still need a new module. I was hoping that I only needed front optical sensors which would link into my current unit to give the full optical display.obviously after recoding.

Nope. A new controller will still be needed just to add the front sensors (with or without OPS).

Skodateile.cz also do kits as well as separate pieces to suit.

How's the Columbus error code issues looking?

How's the Columbus error code issues looking?

To be honest Dave who did the coding is away for a few days so I can't get into it for a bit. We did clear the errors and reboot columbus and those were the errors we were left with. I'm not really concerned now I know what they are , and may just live with them until we can get together and try what you suggested. Wouldn't surprise me if we just have to untick a box for the cd changer. I seem to recollect there being the box for voice activation and that was already unticked, cos we thought about ticking it tonsee whether we could get it to work. Dave suggested leaving it for a while as some errors reset after so many start up cycles, they might clear themselves.

Will research local companies who can fit the sensors on the front and go from there.

Nice to know I can provide the kits if need be . Thanks guys.

I have adhesive primer & drill bit if you need to borrow stuff and can offer advice where needed.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not happy cutting into wiring etc. will probably get the kit and find a good auto electrician to fit it all.
