That nice moment when...

Featured Replies

I took a friend out in my vRS today as he didn't seen it. He owns a 2007 Ibiza with a 1.9/130PS diesel lump in it (an FR or Cupra, and essentially rather similar to a Mk1 vRS). He was very impressed indeed with the DSG and the acceleration (as was I). I often drive too short a distance for the car to warm up well enough to push it. Today we managed 7000rpm a fair few times. Reminds me why I bought it :)

Having come from a MK1 VRS, I know that feeling, the first time I planted my foot into the throttle and screamed through the DSG box.

It may cost me more than my beloved MK1 and I find myself keeping an eye on the mpg's more... but god it's good.

It doesn't have the same torque punch like the pd130 so I was worried I made a big mistake, but now I'm used to the box and a screaming petrol engine those worries have disappeared for sure.

I had a blast back home in S and manual recently which blew the cobwebs away. I think D actually makes the car feel quite sluggish, it changes up so early!!

That's reassuring to know! I've sorted a deal out trading my MK1 VRS in for the MK2 VRS, collecting on Saturday. Excited isn't the word :)

That nice moment when....... The road clears....... and you fully open the taps...... laying waste to the chav in his saxo/corsa etc who has been clinging on to your rear bumper for the last couple of miles..........mmmm, good times!

Best to actually see them trying very hard lol

Awww dam! Yes that's why I bought the vrs mk2 aswell coming from the 1.9tdi mk1, now I have 2 months left with her before my 2.0tdi lump ibiza arrives, best enjoy it!

Had a similar experience last weekend but was a Middle Aged man in an impreza wrx, just think I had bhp to weight ratio and gear change speed over him ;-) he wasn't happy

I just love pootling along through a village sticking to the speed limits with chav / rep mobile / white van man (delete as required) up your chuff, you can almost see the steam coming out their ears as they are desperate to get past. Road opens up to a nice section of dual carriage way etc and they pull out to overtake........ Double flick of the paddle to drop it a couple of cogs........ Baaaaarrrrppp........ Oh what's this? Where are they now?......... Disappearing backwards in the rear view mirror, that's where!

(Only on a private closed road mind you ;-) )

I'll still be doing that (on same private closed roads) in my remapped derv

I always had oil chuggers (mostly) and there is something "naughty" in feeling engine pulling in each gear, smoothly without drive being interrupted all the way to red line without any loss of puff  :strong: - especially when this pull starts so low down in the rev range and then rewards you even more if you are in full manual mode and manage to up shift just so the revs drop to exactly 5k rpm  where peak boost prowls

Since I have a white model with "ordinary" silver alloys, I get a lot of people in regular small cars wanting to "play"... It's amazing how many no longer want to "play" when I stop toying with them, and put the foot down. They usually end up pulling in behind me if we come to a set of red lights after that.

Haven't had the opportunity to do this to any chavs yet but so looking forward to when it happens :-)

Had a Scirroco 2.0tdi following my every move on Monday, mirrored every overtake I did until we got to the roundabout for the dual carriageway, game over mate!

I'm still learning how quick the car is after only having it 10 days, you defo have to drive it different to my mk1 vrs but i'm loving it :-)

I honestly don't think the vrs is as quick as everyone is making out. It's pretty gutless accelerating at higher speeds (60 mph plus).

It is a quick little car, no denying it.

How often do people accelerate hard from that speed anyway? On the motorway I drop it down a couple of cogs and she picks up her heels well.

The beauty of the VRS and the MK1 VRS is the real world performance at real world speeds.

Sure a RS Megane is quicker, so is an S3, so is a GTI. So is a lot of other cars.

But spending £70 a week on fuel is not for me.

Sick of people slating my new toy :-p

WE ARE FULLY AWARE THERE ARE BETTER CARS ON THE ROAD.

But as a complete package considering the running costs and everything else, the MK2 VRS is a beaut.

I thought having the estate would stop muppets trying to play with me. I was wrong.

I only say that because everyone seems to think the vrs is a rocket ship. It's quite quick yes, but I keep thinking mine must be broken looking at some of the comments on here!

grapo,

maybe you need to go and roadtest a couple of other Twinchargers, it might be that yours actually does not go very well.

If acceleration from 60 - 120 MPH is not very good, there could be a problem.

george

I think it might be the silky smooth power delivery making it not feel that fast. Also not being able to get the power down on some roads is an annoyance. I've ordered a new vrs anyhow so we shall see if my next one is 'slow'!

Errr, compared to what? A few years old ( 08-09 ) Golf GTi was feeling lucky and tried to overtake from 50 mph on a motorway - should have seen his face poor sod lol. Merc S350 - couldn't do it despite CLOUDS of smoke coming out of its back side, list is long and illustrious :)

What do you mean? Are you spinning your wheels on striagh line acceleration from standstill? No power exiting a roundabout? Electronics switched off?

I am curious about this experience of yours!

More torque steer and the wheels following the road too much. I partly blame the crappy dunlops for lack of traction in 1st though.

Doesn't feel as quick as my friends mk5 Golf GTI

agree with grapo... i suppose if its the fastest car you have ever owned then it would seem fast. its a nippy car i guess, when you can get the power down off the line its a little rocket, but its not what i would call fast. The DSG makes it seem quite fast too.

Still, i got it to save fuel and money in the long run, not to be silly quick so i cant complain. i can still overtake lorrys and stuff on A roads so does what i need it to do.
