That nice moment when...

@ grapo

You should not be getting any torque steer, check your tracking and tyre pressures. On wet cold road (like now) it indeed spins the wheels in first once or twice, but this is to be expected. Dry and warm (yet to experience lol ) and you will not have it any more. I thought the Dunlops were the grippier ones of the two albeit much more noisier as a trade-off

@terakris

You are absolutely right, we are talking subjective views here based on personal experiences. I driven cars (not owned) in anger which had 450bhp and was driven in 750bhp monsters where acceleration genuinely hurted my spine. I've also driven a variety of go-karts (no car can be even compared to the sheer level of physical abuse experienced!), formula Ford cars etc, etc. Still think vRS is a fast road car with very good handling/comfort compromise, good brakes (more than sufficient for even the fastest road use - track use to be established on 1st June at Bedford), and very good economy.

Out the showroom on factory tyres is can get beaten from 0-30 by a moped.

A Micra, a Picanto etc etc, actually just about any small revvy City Car with traction off the line and a good 0-40 time

Certainly no rocket ship from 0-30. but then does that matter unless racing from traffic light to traffic light in a town.

The comment was on, from 60mph.

Well what is it like from 40, or 50, or 60 mph for an overtake.

Torque steer does depend on gear use, but tyres and tyre pressures can change that greatly IME.

Mid-range acceleration is more than handy. There can be a little turbo lag if you don't sustain that acceleration, but she certainly picks up from there. Here is a comparison to a few other current sporty cars - note in particular the 80-120kph section: http://imageshack.us...img0029urq.jpg/ (source is Australian Motor Magazine in its 2012 "Bang for your buck" comparo.)

I too have had some torque steer at full acceleration, even in 3rd and 4th gear. Though it might be that the XDS on an uneven surface makes the wheel tug more noticeable, because it kicks in early and often??

I think I like what I am seeing in 80-120km/h comparison :D

Had a Scirroco 2.0tdi following my every move on Monday, mirrored every overtake I did until we got to the roundabout for the dual carriageway, game over mate!

I'm still learning how quick the car is after only having it 10 days, you defo have to drive it different to my mk1 vrs but i'm loving it :-)

Would be a different story if it was vs my 2.0tdi ibiza stage 1 (future car) haha

Until it run out of puff at 4k rpm that is :D;)

Mine torque steers sometimes. Depends on the gear and the road though.

Has been an enjoyable 2 years in the vRS estate!

.

Maps to nearly 300lb/ft of torque and 190bhp I'm sure will be just fine ;-)

Re torque steer. Just came back from a trashing session in my Black Beauty  . No matter how I pushed I did not get any torque steer at all... 0-30mph 2.96sec 0-60mph 7.53 1/4mile 15.94 @91 mph with 2C ext temp, dirty roads and no burnout. Max acc 0.61g.

To be expected from standard car in this weather and on dirty, not flat roads, also had to turn the steering and was a ever so slight uphill gradient.

Maps to nearly 300lb/ft of torque and 190bhp I'm sure will be just fine ;-)

That's why I love oil chuggers !

Possibly quicker than my vrs???

agree with grapo... i suppose if its the fastest car you have ever owned then it would seem fast. its a nippy car i guess, when you can get the power down off the line its a little rocket, but its not what i would call fast. The DSG makes it seem quite fast too.

Still, i got it to save fuel and money in the long run, not to be silly quick so i cant complain. i can still overtake lorrys and stuff on A roads so does what i need it to do.

Yep 100% agree, on the most part feels quicker than it really is because its small, its fizzy and you feel alot of whats going on because its actually quite unrefined from an NVH pespective. Not the engine so much just the lack of sound deadening and road noise.

Step on acceleration feels strong because of the supercharger and its all pretty convincing until it begins to run out of puff at just after 6k, hit a certain speed and the engine does begin to betray its small capacity roots despite all the cleverness.

Lack of traction is one of its biggest problems and the ESP and XDS controls it quite poorly IMO; the number of roundabouts ive come off quickly in the fast lane where i had the car cut power temporarily because it was simply incapable of putting it down cleanly once in a straight line was many; bad enough to make what should be safe and clean overtakes before the filter back to one lane into some very tight bum moments. Still what more should anyone really expect of a car with 180hp that dynamically as standard is very little different from a regular sport suspended Fabia? Sweet spot of the range for me now would be a 1.2 TSi 105 Monte, just enough power with the sporting apendages that make owning a vRS a nice experience; very much Skodas very own Fiesta Zetec S, though still falls a bit short dynamically.

I still think a MK5 GTi is way better to drive; in fact have to say its one of the most fun hatches ive driven.

There you go, a very good personal experiences description. I do not agree with some parts but this is only to be expected :). I do not find the engine running out of puff after 6k although I like to shift up at 6.5k.Electronic traction control wizardry I find very helpful, like a butler reigning in my more boisterous desires ;) - if you ask tyres to corner AND accelerate at the same time the choice must be made as there is only a certain amount of grip available overall so ECU chooses lateral grip above acceleration and cuts the power. With electronic crutches switched off I have to modulate the throttle extensively to stay within grip boundaries - car has more power than grip in OEM trim.

Yeah it's an awesome feeling, especially when passenger comes back saying I pick mine up next week. What a selling point that was. lol.

Probably a CR 140 and to be expected; if it were a 170 wouldnt be so easy. Like all VAG diesels they arent particularly good off the mark in the first three gears because they are so short but once up to motorway speed a 170 wouldnt have much trouble hanging onto a Fabia vRS.

The CR 170 is no good at quick lower speed point and squirt driving but is extremely effective at muching up MPH's in the higher gears, even in 6th at licence loosing speeds. I found my Fabia got a bit weak at higher speeds in higher gears particulalrly once the peak torque output had been reached.
