Silent Columbus

Featured Replies

Just attempting to swap out my Audience headunit for a newly purchased Columbus in my '06 Octavia.

However I have immediately hit upon a problem, in that there is absolutely no audio output from the Columbus - on radio, CD, anything... Plugged the Audience back in and it plays fine.

My car is fitted with the 'Sound System' upgrade (amp under the passenger seat and 12 speakers), so I am wondering if there is some special coding required to make the Columbus work with this?

Hmm..... There was a thread on here about Columbus and sound system, but its going back a way, and I've not been able to find it with a search. I know that some people can just plug and play with a retrofit Columbus, but I'm sure you will specifically have to code it to make use of the extra amp/speakers of the sound system. I know there is a setting that allowed you to select the sound system, but you would need VCDS or similar to do it.

You need to code the Columbus for Premium Sound System using VCDS.

Thanks - I couldn't find anything with search either.

Just to add a bit more knowledge here - I have just tried the brand new Audience MP3 I bought (before I changed my mind and got the Columbus!) and that is silent too - only the original fit Audience makes any sound. Adds weight to the belief that it is a coding issue rather than a duff Columbus

Ah, thanks Andy that proves my suspicion - nothing is ever as straightforward as it seems....

Just need to find a friendly North West coder with the required kit - I think a PM to Mr Holroyd might be in order.

I'm in Rossendale if you want it doing?

Appreciate the offer, however been to Mike Holroyd's tonight and the problem is now solved.

Pleased to report that my problem has been solved and it is a very big thanks to Mike Holroyd for sorting it for me.

Despite a few tense moments when the Columbus refused to accept the revised coding (resolved by a spot of Googl'ing and a couple of extra zeroes!), all is now well.

I have to say the audio quality of the Columbus is noticeably better than the Audience it has replaced, proven by a good blast on the way back from Mike's.

So thanks Mike, it was great to meet you.
