Traction control light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ive recently just purchased a fabia vrs 06. Today I have had the traction control light on the dash come on for a few seconds then went off. Again earlier it came on and staid on then when I turn the car off then back on it will dissappear. Ive also noticed some squeeking from the brakes when I tap them lightly... the image on the dash is a car with tread marks in orange which I just assume its a traction control light.

Has anyone haf this issue or any idea what it could be. I have been told there is some sort of "speed sensor" that could be causing this. But no idea why it would be causing a squeeking noise with the breaks, checked the pads and they have plenty of life left.

Any help or suggestions would be greatfull

My traction light comes on for a few seconds when accelerating and it's wet or the wheels try to spin is it not that? I can't see why else it would flash for a few seconds and then go back off.

i can remember my mate telling me about wheel bearings having an effect on ABS/TCS. he could have been messing with me but he is a time served mechanic who ran his own garage for a few years so he's reliable professionally.

from a bit of research on google there are a few people who have had faulty wheel bearings that have wrecked their ABS/TCS sensor. is there an odd humming noise coming from any of your wheels while driving? when you turn a corner it would get louder. if you turn right then the faulty bearing is on the left as that side of the car is under cornering load. front or back can be diagnosed from the noise. if you leave it a bit the noise will get very loud and definitely noticeable until the bearing fails which could be catastrophic.

if there's no noise then jack the car up at each corner and hold the top and bottom of the tyre and give it a shake. if theres any play then that could be your problem. the wheel bearing play can wreck the ABS sensor which, I think, is one of the main inputs for the Traction Control System.

I could be wrong but checking for play in the wheels is better than taking it in for a diagnosis to find out the same thing lol and losing money to your local mechanic.
