Citigo/Fabia 69 PS Owners!

Featured Replies

Looking to buying a new Citigo or Fabia 1.2 69PS.

I first went to dealership with Citigo only in mind but the salesman told me that for less per month i can have the Fabia SE 1.2 on this 25% off deal thing which seems like a no brainer. More room them the Citigo, more substantial ect ect but ive never had my heart set on it and although its a nice car its very dull, common and seems that it is isn't that cheap to run?

While away i referred to the Brisky Citigo section and found a thread on actual MPG's and turns out its doing about 51MPG, damn sight less than what Skoda claimed but what i expected. Turns out the Fabia will achieve only 37mpg around town, this is the claimed MPG so straight away i can knock at least 3mpg off that figure which takes it down to 34mpg..not impressive when the Citigo can do so much more.

Anyways the point of the thread, are these claimed MPG for both cars true? I want owners/drivers actual reports.

Also since i know the Fabia well (had a few loan cars) and never had chance to drive and live with the Citigo for more than a couple min test drive, living with it day to day opinions would also be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Hi Ema, do a search on, www.spritmonitor.de/ and you will be able to see what the cars return.

We used to have a Fabia 1.2 htp 69ps, my uncle has it now.

Around town on short trips would see around 35mpg, a bit more in summer and a bit less in icy conditions. On a run out on A and B roads getting 50mpg is fairly easy. Motorway speeds hurt economy due to the engine revs and the Fabia's blunt front end, the 1.2HTP is fairly lively at motorway speeds but over 70mph will have the economy dropping to 40mpg.

Technology has moved on though, my wife swapped her 1.2 HTP for a 1.6 turbo petrol with 8 speed auto gearbox and over double the power and the new car is more economical.

For a city car and a short ride out the 1.2HTP is a great unit, for higher speed commuting I'd look at something else.

Cheers

My son averages around 53mpg in his Greentech Citigo.

Sometimes with a full load and he doesn't hang around.

He had a VW Polo 1.2 ( Fabia equivalent?) as a loan car recently ,and it was a very dull drive in comparison.

It also used more fuel as well ,though I couldn't give an accurate comparison.

Quick edit: The Citigo is free road tax.The fabia is £105 per year after the first year.( Band D.)

All cars out there do not get the claimed figures. For example my numerous comments about the Fiat 500 twinair being terrible on the fuel front. some 10+mpg less than the claimed figures. So far the citigo has be far better on fuel but again still not totally the claimed figures.

I would guess due to size/weight and gearing the citigo will be better on fuel but probably not a quick. Also factor into what sort of driving you do.

I've had a loaner 1.2 Fabia when my Octavia was having some warrenty work done and was impressed with the mpg it returned plus its a cheeky little engine.

One thing I will say the citigo does not fill like a little city car I still get out and think.......where did the rest of the car go?

Only covered just over a 1000 miles will be filling the tank up again this week so check my sig out for an update for running mpg.

The Citigo feels extremely solid and outscores the Fabia on Euro ncap -it's a much more modern car, it's cheaper to insure and the engine is so much better than the 1.2 unit in the Fabia.

If you don't need the back seat/boot space I'd go for the Citigo.

I think after posting this Emma decided to buy a Hyundai i10 as the PCP was cheaper.
