Rattly B pillar driving me mad

Featured Replies

The tyre roar may be rear tracking being off. I'm getting the same thing. To confirm this rub your hand over the tyre tread on the rear tyres. If the tyre feels pretty smooth rubbing in one direction and feels like there are sharp corners on the tread block when rubbing in the other direction then you have sawtooth wear, which is sorted by adjusting the rear camber AFAIK. The car got a lot quieter when I rotated the tyres last week. I've got 73 dB tyres though, so they're pretty loud anyway. The winter tyres I've bought are 70 dB, so when they go on I'm expecting things to be quieter.

The plasticky click on gear change is another thing I've noticed. It goes away if you hold the gear lever below the knob while changing gear, which is a good indicator that it's the gear stick (Probably the sliding joint used when you push the lever down to select reverse) and not the gear box. There's a thread on the forum here where this is mentioned - I think the gear stick was replaced to fix it. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/286686-noisy-clunky-gearshift/?hl=%2Bgear+%2Bbox+%2Blinkages#entry3460876

A lot of the reason the Superb can seem more rattly than the Octy is down to how quiet the car is inside to begin with. When I moved my car's mascot (A plastic Mojo Jojo) from the Octy to the Superb I had to put blu tack in the neck joint to stop it rattling. I'd never heard that rattling before over the engine and other ambient noise while in the Octy...

Thanks very useful, especially the link.

The noise seems to be more from the new Nankang NS2's the garage fitted on the front (before I saw the car.)

Popped out with my trusty tin of spray on white lithium grease, greased the lock catch in the door, bye bye rattle!!!

Thank goodness it was an easy fix!!!

Yup... Perfect, worked a treat!!!! Thanks!

Now got an annoying rattle from under the steering wheel/lower dashboard area - tried allsorts to fix it, might have to be a trip to the dealers!!!

I think the double cupholder in the centre console on mine is rattling over very rough patches only. Pushed it down and packed some bits of tissue between the top edge of the cupholder and the lower edge of the centre console. Really pretty looking! So far so good. Will replace tissue with thin black foam (Armaflex jointing tape) if things stay quiet.

Oh and taking the wife's umbrella out of the passenger door pocket helps with rattles too! :dull:
