Rattly B pillar driving me mad

Featured Replies

At least I think it's the B pillar. Bloody thing rattles every time I pull away, brake or hit any sort of bumps or similar.

Anyone else had this? I daren't take it to DM Keith after last time!

Mine does the same if my seatbelt becomes even slightly loose.

On mine it is the plastic surround on the bottom of the seat belt rattling on the plastic seat base when ever the road is bad.

But now i know what it is i keep meaning to put some material sleeve around it.

You can check if it is this by tapping the bottom of the seatbelt against the seat base whilst driving with it slightly loose then pull seatbelt tight and hold it tight to see if it goes away.

had same experience, took some time to figure it out what is it.... I have the same idea to fix it by some soft material around when spring wash and waxing in garage will happen.

Yup, my wife discovered the same rattle and at this moment hunting some self adhesive felt to plastic at the bottom of the seatbelt.

Mine has developed a rattle in the same place recently, sounds like the drivers door needs adjusting. It drives me bonkers, just need some time to get it sorted out

Yes that's it. Thinking about it, it sounds more like a creak than a rattle really....

I had same problem. My brother and I tried to find creak spot. No luck. Than I had small crash, guy hit my Superb drivers door at parking. After repair there is no sound.

Maybe I helped.

Popped out with my trusty tin of spray on white lithium grease, greased the lock catch in the door, bye bye rattle!!!

Thank goodness it was an easy fix!!!

X2 on this fix. I posted this some time ago. VW/Skoda use Krytox grease (which I have but is very expensive) however the white lithium should work for some time.

The problem comes from the factory not greasing the door lock mechanisms properly or not at all. You will be surprised how little grease you need to solve the annoying rattle!

Well I was skeptical, but I sprayed on some lubricant with PTFE in it which apparently sets like a grease.

First journey since was totally silent! Woohoo!

x3 for lock lubrication. Never had to do this on any other car ever.

You got to be kidding me !!

I HAD the same rattle !!

And now it is gone ! Thank god for this thread ! :-)

Ahhh, so that's what this noise is!  Thanks for the information guys, will sort this out now over the weekend :)

I find I have to spray the door mechanism every two months or so (with that same type of lubricant) and that sorts it, especially during warmer weather, otherwise it will creak/knock with sudden movements

Same here, two issues:

1. Rear door striker plate re-aligned

2. Driver seat belt as discussed, had some adhesive felt in, stuck it belt buckle

Rattles gone.

Will keep an eye or ( or maybe an ear ) on need to grease locks, thanks for the heads up.

The car is much better without the rattle :-)

This + new tires makes the car very quiet :-)

I am glad that I found this thread.  I have had a mysterious creak in my B pillar and rear door for the last few months.  Three minutes with a few squirts of spray grease in the locks and problem solved   :sun:

I thought I had this noise but it wasn't helped by grease in the door lock. I then discovered that the noise disappeared when I opened the sunroof even though it sounded like it was coming from the passenger door. Some rubber preserver around the seals and it's been mostly silent since. Opening and closing the sunroof has silenced it every other time thankfully.

We have creaky door latches on Volvos at work, special grease applied to the latch fixes problem, and it fixed my Superb drivers door latch, and before that the Fabias too

This is why I love Brisky

Also suffer this on new car, sounds quite bad but hopefully a quick fix.

Does it change if you alter the rake and reach on the wheel?

Hate cabin rattles.

I have to say, when it comes to squeaks and rattles, the Superb build quality isn't as good as the later mk1 Octavia - imho.

Well I have come to the point of view that one shouldn't ever come count on a car coming out of the factory just as you would want it.

Buy whatever comes close to what you need and do the rest yourself :D

Squeaky B Pillar solved.

Currently I am noticing that I have a notchy plasticky sounding gear change - annoying

Central Cubby hole by the handbrake is useless as anything in there produces a large rattle

I have far too much tyre roar for my liking

I fancy I will have all of the above sorted one way or another in a month or so.

Good as the Superb is on build quality I think it would really seal the deal to go around the car with some sound barrier matting and deadening sheets.

I have driven a few different Skoda models recently (dealer loan cars) and noticed this on most of them and they were all pretty much brand new as well.  Sounds as if it is inside the steering wheel at times and if you hold the area underneath the steering wheel it goes away.  I'd take it back and let them have a look.
