Springs

Featured Replies

What is the best set of springs to put on a fabia vrs to give it a nice stance but not too harsh of a ride?

I have looked at weitech are they any good? About a 30mm drop I believe they are.

Cheers

How much action have your shocks seen? It's just if they're coming off anyway and you have 100k on them it could be worth doing the lot.

I've only just bought the car about 5days ago just turned 89k on the clock. They seem in good condition.

KW's which lower by just 20mm

Sorry for the hijacking the thread but its a relevant question I think.

If I swap my springs for lower Eibach or H&R springs do I need to inform my insurance?

I only ask because I'm sure they are sold as oem?

Yep, tell them.

Tagging my question onto this post: Is it worthwhile changing shocks & springs together? Front end on my VRS (125K) is a little knocky. Had all the usual bush replacement done, considering getting the top mounts & bearings changed in the next 10K but as the shock has to come out I'm considering ordering new ones since they're £30ish a side on ECP with Brisk discount. However, If I should be replacing the springs as well, it may have to wait :)

I'd say the Eibach Pro kit is the best option on standard dampers.

I'd say do the whole lot fella.

My 120k car had any bump/pot hole/expansion joint slamming through the entire shell.

I bought a set of second hand full suspension off a member here who removed it and fitted coilovers.

It'd done 60k and it effectively halfved the age of my suspension actually given the ride some softness back.

I could actually just drive not have to weave around all the bumps :D

When the old stuff was off and the new stuff yet to go on we compared the 2 and the old dampers had pretty much stopped damping and the springs were about half an inch shorter than the "new" ones

Wow! Well there seems to be a lot of Sachs springs/shocks around for these vehicles so may give those a punt but I'll get a price on OEM stuff anyway. Best get saving for the full car now as it's not bad, but it doesn't like even very shallow pot holes. Got to get to the bottom of a front end creak first despite new bushes and drop links!

this little lot might sort you out if you're on a budget dave.

Or of couse buy my dampers and eibachs ;)

Thanks PastyBoy, just given the guy a message. Deffo on a budget and to be honest, want to remain standard on suspension.

If you are going to drop it by 30mm, then you defo need to move away from OEM dampers. I would advise Bilstein B6. They work a treat improving handling even at standard ride height, but if you drop it they are IMHO the best value for money in terms of performance, durability and build quality.

In fact, I still have a pair of brand new rear ones kicking about on the garage, which you could have for a very fair price, if interested PM me. Then all you wound need is a pair of fronts. If you buy them from Germany they will be at least 20-30 a corner cheaper than the UK too.

The Billy's are a decent damper at their price point, being the inverted high pressure monotube design.

For lowering, the B8 is the best choice. The damper is designed for use with a lowering spring in mind having a shorter stroke. As with most Bilsteins, valving is spot on with a bottomless feel

the B8 is part of the 'B12' kit which comes with Eibach Pro springs (terrible springs IMO - much better with something firmer and longer, not lowering quite as much)
