New to Forum with Fabia charging problems

Featured Replies

First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone on the forum.

I have a Fabia vrs, late 2006, which I have owned from new.

I am currently a Motor Vehicle Lecturer, so hopefully I can give as well as take (ooh er missus!)

Although I have regularly viewed the forum, and offered suggestions to peoples problems. This is the first time I have posted a question, to be honest this is the first real headache the car has given me since buying it.

The Problem:

Battery is slowly draining over time, checked for parasitic drain...nothing excessive. Replaced battery as precaution (battery over 3 years old so didn't have a problem replacing it)

Checked alternator output....14.3 volts going into the battery idle and under load.

Physically checked the load sensing wire and plug, no signs of breaks or chafing (although to be honest didn't get a chance to start checking for continuity etc, little reluctant to start breaking into looms etc without wiring diagram)

All other plugs and connections appear sound and clean.

I have viewed several alternatives on this site and others, ranging from the alternator clutch, to voltage control boxes behind console clocks.

Problem I'm having is the symptoms doesn't quite fit with other ppls faults I'm reading about.

If anyone can point me, or has found similar issues please let me know, professional vanity (and an expensive wife) won't let me take it to an electrician/dealership (don't have a great deal of faith in the quality of Skoda techs....oops, ones that I've met that is...sorry if any reading this...lol).

I look forward to a flood of intelligent and informative ideas on how to progress.

Rik
