Not posted before but I thought someone might have an answer

I brought a Skoda Citigo back in January 2013.

Never had a problem with it at all but recently started noticing a sound when I steer the car into full lock.

It kinda sounds like something is rubbing or stretching.

I don't know if this is something that has recently started or if it was there when I got it and its just a usual thing (I usually drive with music on so cant hear allot going on outside).

Its not a horrendously loud sound but I'm just a bit concerned.

Does anybody else have this problem?

Most PAS systems are noisier when you hold on full lock than they are the rest of the time.

In case it's something else, is the noise worse when turning one way than the other? If so, it may be a problem with the outer Constant Velocity joint on the side that's outside the turn when it's noisier.

Unless it's an alarming sound, it's probably just typical noise from the system.

The Citigo has electric power steering and it does make a bit of noise when held on full lock.

Frequently holding any car on full lock will shorten the life of the motor. It is the most common reason for PAS motor failures.

Once you reach full lock and the car makes a noise, slacken it off slightly to reduce the strain.

Isn't the noise some sort of pressure relief for the fluid and quite a normal noise to make ?

There is no fluid in the Citigo PAS system. Its an electromechanical system with the electrical motor built into the steering coloumn.

Mine does it of full lock whilst using the turn circle at the end of the road. Sounds like the wheel rubbing the arch rather than tge noise of the motor (which is different). I've not notice any extra wear or marks on arch so assume its a normal noise.
