Just had my stage 1 remap done

Featured Replies

Well, today was the day for me to take the two hour journey(1hr 20 on the way back!) to r-tech for my stage one.

There got there at 10.30 and there was a mk5 golf gti on the rollers so hung around and spoke to Ben for a bit (awesome guy) who did a diagnostic check (all clear) and checked all pipework (again, all good!)

Eventually got the car on the rollers nick worked his magic....

Going to have to figure a way of getting a photo up of the dyno reading(il do it later tonight!)

But for a completely standard car that I took down I was very pleased with the results;

Standard

181bhp 190ft/lb@ 2642rpm

After

211bhp 261ft/lb@3447rpm

Can thank Ben and nick more and would highly recommend them to ANYONE wanting a remap.

The drive back up the m1 was awesome!

Sounds good, whats the cost with the RR? :)

good figures for totally stock all about the ft/lb

£250..... Rolling roaded before and after. Cannot recommend them more highly. Nick is awesome at maps for these cars. Instead of the usual kick from 2-3k, the car now starts pulling at 2.5k like a train and keeps going, even pinning you back in the seat. I always felt that standard it just seemed to run out of puff after 3-3.5k but now that is where the car is in its element. I've officially got the bug now I think!

Ahh ****! That was a ballache doing that- I had to scan it and upload to photobucket. Is there any other way of doing it?! How do people get the pics to show on the thread itself?

You copy the direct link to the jpg, click the little picture button(says "image" when you hover over it) when you are posting and paste the link into that.

Think you just convinced me what I want for my birthday, that torque increase is epic. B)

Very similar to mine!

Same r-tech stage 1 custom

Its the increase at 4k rpm which is the most impressive part

Yeah, it makes all the difference instead of it all falling off it is a hell of a lot more constant now. Did a little test earlier keeping it just below 30mph in 2nd and then flooring it- unbelievable the difference and how quickly the revs go round- gets to 50 so quick! I'm quite concerned that I now know what people are on about when they say it is addictive!

Jase, I have noticed on my graph a bit of a drop in power at 3.5k which is the same on yours but less so. What could this be? Can't say I feel it though when I'm driving.

My most impressive thing i noticed was sitting at 70mph on the mway in 5th and just flooring it! The pick up through to naughty figures was unbelievable!

The r-tech custom map was really good, never hurt my car in any way. Clutch was strong after a hell of an abuse and the turbo was perfect!

I know it has reached peak by this point but it seems to rise agin slightly before then dropping again

I dont know

I cant see it being anything as r-tech would have picked it up thats for sure!

Probably just the turbo spooling up

Hahaha, that was the first thing I noticed cos I had to go on the m69 then m1. Within about 5 minutes of being on m69 cruising in fast lane at 85 a merc slk320 came flying up behind me.... Obviously I floored it! Pulled like mad. Off to Chester zoo tomorrow so more fun to be had ;)

for legal reasons and your defense i know you mean KPH  not mph :giggle: you wouldn't want to post anything that could be used against you by your insurance or any motoring organisation who may think having fun in your car illegal

Identical torque to mine (Shark)! 354Nm (261lbft), but mine peaks at 3197rpm.

It's all about that area under the torque curve! No peaky diesel BS!

I can't agree more. I did over 200 miles today in the FRV. The 2.2 diesel engine has a lovely surge of torque and it's all over by 4k rpm. :@

As someone who loves petrol engines I found it so frustrating so often today. I know people could say that it's all down to driving style and the fact that I need to adapt. No, it's simply that a nicely remapped 1.8t engine has the ability to give you the kick in the rear that a diesel does and then it keeps on going and going.

Good on yer Scott for taking the plunge. I remember my first drive after the RS tuning map and I was the same as you- grinning from ear to ear. All you need to do now is get it to go round corners properly. :D
