Brake upgrades

Featured Replies

Just a quick poll

The brakes on the vrs are a bit wet in my oppinion

whats the best thing to make them better?

Bigger brake kit or upgraded discs and pads (suggestions would be very welcome along with brands)

Leon Cupra R Brembos. Bolt straight on :)

Might need spacers for standard alloys.

how much? and how easy to obtain?

They come up on here and on Ebay pretty regularly.

I paid 500 quid for mine with decent pads and discs. They seem to range from 250-550 depending on condition.

At least in the UK you can just fit them and as long as it passes an MOT you're good. I had to get them certified here :D

They're really good by the way. 4 pots, and they feel much stronger and bite much better than the standard ones.

Though I try not to use them. My original pads still had life in them at 90,000km :D They're on a Mk3 Golf now in Auckland!

The standard stuff is -fairly- decent, whats up with them?

Rebleed with some nice fresh brake fluid

Check vac/MC/servo system for leaks

Fit decent pads - eg DS2500 or similar

Try that 1st

just not alot of bite....due to be changed so thought i might uprate

The OE setup should have a decent responsive bite to it

Sounds like a rebleed and check-over of vac system is 1st thing you need to do

Do you know what pads you've got in at mo & what state ?

the pads at the mo i dont know but they are about 70% worn now....i reckon it may be due for a fluid change....however as im looking to be at stage 2 in the not to distant future i thought i would look into upgrades as handling comes before power :)

Lcr brembos for me too.

Awesome kit even with 25 pound pagid pads lol they wipe the floor with the sd stuff.

5mm spacers needed to clear callipers tho for std spiders and min 17" alloy.

Some et35 wheels dont fit either without spacers. Td pro race 1.2 is one that dunt fit. Needs a 1mm spacer minimum due to spoke design

id be fitting them under standard 17" spiders so thats useful to know

Pads being 70% worn won't help on their own. Std VRS setup with good clean fluid and decent pads are pretty good as far as standard kit goes.... Having said that, i have the brembo's too :giggle:

any chance you guys can keep your eyes open for LCR brembos please....i fancy the upgrade

Set on edtn 38

Need some work but look doable.

Need to be logged in tho to see.

2 sets there one is ready to fit too but 550 for them and pads are needed but 25 notes for pagid ones off ecp is good enough and a mahoosive improvement over std brakes.

cheers guys looking for ones that require as little as possible work done to them....wont be able to make a move till next month but its good to have ideas

If you do upgrade, give me your standard items :p

GIVE them to you???? lol sorry my white beard and red suit must be very decieving :p

+1 for LCR brembo's I have them on my track vrs and there great.

I have Tarrox 6 pots on my other vRS and there also great but much more expensive.

Pads to start mate 25 ish from ecp for std pagids just while you save again

Discs tho if them are warpped are a tad more and be aware they do warp if used too hard.

Imo for road use I didnt need anything better than the cheap pagids they were ace.

Mind I hardly use my brakes. Leave it in gear and lots of space lol
