Xenon lights for Fabia?

Featured Replies

Anyone got any recommended? and/or can you buy some at the local halfords?

Another question is are they easy to fit? because ive read some posts about aligning them etc etc.

Sorry for being a noobie (amatuer)

Xenon type bulbs I guess you mean rather than Xenon lights.

No different from fitting normal bulbs, bit fiddly but certainly do able.

Xenon-like replacement bulbs are a good upgrade, although 30% brighter than 'standard' as opposed to the 'extra bright' ones, which get up to 50% :)

Either way, not too bad :D

Actual 'proper' Xenon bulbs for use in the approved enclosure are quite a lot more expensive, around about 100 quid, but they require the proper gear. The official ones have washers on them too.

Think you can get aftermarket ones as well, dunno how hard it is to fit those, probably a fair bit of work but I'd check them out :D

Ok, i went to my local halfords and saw a selection of 'Ultra Blue Bulbs'. Does anyone know what type I need? I saw loads of codes, i.e H3 etc and I have no clue which one a fabia needs. I didn't want to take my old ones out to compare it coz I dont want to play around with the old bulbs.

Have a look in the handbook ;)

That said there is a post on these forums somewhere where there was a long discussion about it, if IIRC.

H7 for the dipped beam, H3 for the main beam. I'd steer clear of the Halfrauds bulbs - tryed some in my old Pug 306 a few years ago and wasn't that impressed. I've since used +50% Philips and Osram bulbs and they're much better value for money.

As WW says above - have a search.

Philips blue vision bulbs are pretty good. Don't let the name throw you, the light they give of isn't blue at all, just a very bright white. I used them for the past few years in my Megane, and they were great.

Osram Silverstars (H7) for dipped and Philips Rallye (H3) for main  Available from www.powerbulbs.co.uk and you get free sidelights thrown in too :D

Also have a look at http://www.redgriffin.co.uk/. Put any Vauxhall hate feelings to one side - I found they were cheaper than Powerbulbs. I have used Powerbulbs before and their service is great. I paid about

I used Osram Silverstars (H7) for dipped and Philips Rallye (H3) for main but anyone who knows what a true xenon light as fitted as a factory option can easily tell these are just bright halogen lights, because they are just filled with xenon gas and usually some colouring on the glass to give a xenon effect. The cheapest true HID conversion I have seen is

Some info I got together a couple of months ago regarding replacement bulbs - might be of some help..

Btw they made a big difference to my night driving!

Xenon's are the dogs dangles and I wouldn't be without them now :D

They also take less power to run once over the initial powerup.

Was just gonna say - they'll give ya another xxx bhp ;)

The real thing IS better than uprated bulbs, having had experience with both. The Furby has good standard lights though, admittedly.

Since I first upgraded bulbs in some Pug 205 I owned, I've never looked back, always the first thing to happen to the car (after checking the electrics, esp. in the French cars I've owned, heheee). (.. plus cambelt, oil, filter, the usual)

Unlike what is implied by Skoda the headlight conversion covers you can purchase for the non-Xenon work beautifully and did not cause any problems at all when I used them in France, Belgium, Holland last week. Drove with the lights on dipped beam at all times. Did not get flashed by anyone :)

Using Philips Blue Vision....amazing lights..plus with the high quality film I have over it, gives off a very white-blue effect. It's beautiful. Guaranteed.

high quality film

I think he may be refering to the bulbs that look like that have a blue film over them to cast a blueish light... Either that or he was on about "Debbie does Dallas 2000" :D

Was thinking about these HID kits but unsure about the legality of them and then found this on www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk

Are these aftermarket kits road legal?

Yes. All our HID systems are CE approved and E4 certificated in all safety, E.M. emmission and performance specifications.

This means that they are road legal. There is a lot of confusion regarding the legality of HID systems fitted to cars without headlamp power wash and rear axle self levelling. This legislation only applies to systems fitted to NEW vehicles at the factory production phase.

HID systems fitted as an aftermarket accessory DO NOT REQUIRE the car to have power wash or self levelling.

Can anyone shed anymore light on this?

Sorry about the punn :D
