Airbag Problems

I am having an intermittent issue with the airbag light coming on. When I scan the car with VCDS I get one or two errors coming up as follows:

The second code showed up twice before but not this time.

When I test drove the car the airbag light was on. It was agreed that this would be sorted when I bought it. Looking under the DRIVERS seat the plug for the airbag wiring has been replaced with soldered connections.

The fault is very intermittent, it has happened 3 times since the beginning of December. Last time it came onn I took it to the dealer. They put the car up on the ramps (and spent a good amount of time looking at the front wheels for some obscure reason), they came back and said the fault was intermittent, they had cleared it and hopefully it wouldn't back, if it did they would want the car for 2 days to try and trace the fault... Which wasn't very helpful.

Before I take it back and jump up and down I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to what the source of my problem is.

If it isn't a dodgy connection where the airbag loom plugs into the main loom, which looks unlikely given the previous repair, my thoughts would be a problem with the airbag. You could try moving in the seat to see if that pops the light on, if it does, it would support the airbag fault theory.

Sorry I'm an idiot! It is the DRIVERS seat which has had the plug removed and the DRIVERS side which is throwing the error!

I have tried bouncing up and down like a 5 year old and adjusting the seat and fiddling with the wiring under the seat (gently) with the ignition on but it doesn't make the fault occur.

The light has come on at innocuous moments when I have been driving along sedately.

Actually, maybe I'll let the kids loose on the drivers seat, see if that triggers the fault.

That alters things drastically then! It may be that one of the soldered connections has become dry. I'm still convinced that it's a connection problem somewhere.

I was wondering about that. The joints are covered with heat shrink so I can't see anything. Like I said I have tried wiggling the three individual wires but without issue.

Obviously I will NOT try and test the wiring with a multimeter.

Battery seems fine, the car starts fine, cold or warm. I haven't actually checked it though.

Check the repair. I had this too and the wiring had previously been repaired but upon inspection it was done with some dodgy looking crimp connectors. Cut these out and soldered them properly and have been fine ever since.

Hi Guys, read your posts with interest as my Skoda Octavia has the same issue with the driver's side airbag warning light coming on intermittently. Research told me it was the wiring under the seat which may break a circuit when the seat was moved forward/backwards.

I removed the plugs on the wires and soldered the wires together covering with insulation. I reset the fault codes and problem solved... until a couple of months ago when it came on again and will not go off again despite checking the connections; fault code is the same.

MOT now imminent; any suggestions what I should do next?

On my pre FL Octavia there are two sets of plugs. The first is under the seat and the second is under the carpet just in front of the seat. Did you do both sets?

I had that fault. Tried the plugs and no luck. £300 later to skoda and the seat has a new airbag

Only changed the plug connections under the seat; didn't know there was another set of connectors under the carpet  - I'll check out -  cheers. I am confident the air bag is fine and it's just a wiring/connection fault.

I had the same problem with the passenger seat. Plug had been cut and the wires soldered, but randomly got the airbag warning light. I redid the repair solder and never had it come back since.

The dealer had to have two goes at soldering the wires. After their first go I would get intermittent "resistance too high" faults logged for the drivers seat airbag. They redid the joints and it has been fine since.

Sorry, didn't realize this had been bumped from 2013. Was on my phone at the time.

Firstly, with the ignition very much OFF, unplug the airbag connector under the driver's seat and try to clean the connectors with an emery board. DO NOT USE A METAL FILE TO CLEAN AS YOU DO NOT WANT TO SHORT OUT THE WIRING HERE! Give it a light spray of WD40 and reconnect, and then use a plastic cable tie around the connector to hold it very firmly.

I have followed the above last weekend due to the airbag light appearing on the dash last Thursday morning. I extinguished it with a code reader/eraser and it came back on Thursday evening. Having removed the battery negative lead I set about cleaning the drivers seat connection yellow plug one under the trim. The code referred to that side btw. After a spray with WD40 it was connected and put back in situ. Battery was connected and code cleared.

A week later it's still not come on again. Happy bunny, thanks Briskoda. [emoji106]
