Water `leak`.

Well, not a `leak` exactly...let me explain:

Each time after I've washed my car, for the next 24 hours or so, whenever I close any of the doors water pours out the bottom of it. Its as if there's a pool of water in the bottom of the door the will only be expelled by the inertia of the door closing. I'm rather worried that in time things will rust inside the door. Does anyone know if this is normal or just my car?

it's normal, there are drain holes in the bottom, it's not just a skoda thing, VWs have it too - perhaps others too.

As above, my Mkl and three Mkll's have been the same, after washing or heavy rain.

When I put car in garage I leave the doors open ( the car doors I do have a very large garage ) and the water will drain out quite quickly.

Several previous makes have been the same.

Thanks for that, Spectrum. Are you not worried about draining the battery with the lights on all the time? (I don't know if they can all be switched off). Also I'm not sure mine will in fact drain...I rather think the water `evaporates` and that's my concern...it sitting there with the resultant rust risk. I think I'll mention it to my dealer the next time I make a visit.

I would hope that the inside of the doors are fairly rust resistant so no worries there. My gripe is the unsightly "water marks" which appear all the time on the door sills below the drains and it is especially obvious on darker colours like my superb's petrol blue .

And on my Rosso. That's what first alerted me to the problem.

What I tend to do is wait till they're dry and then polish them out with a little SRP.

All lights automatically go out after a few minutes, no longer than 10, there is a little extra battery drain for the time the doors are open with the antitheft off, more current drain than when antitheft is enabled, but the doors do not have to be left open for a long period. The doors are treated inside with a protective wax type sealant and plastic membrane which must be replaced if damaged. The drain holes are large if water pours out this does not seem right, even using a pressure washer I don't have large quantities of water coming out, closing the doors does result in water coming from the drain holes, not a lot and none left in the bottom of the doors, leaving doors open quickly releases any water and allows the insides to dry also quickly. Your dealer might if you really press them remove the door trims and look inside.

I have left doors open, or the vehicle unlocked for several days, with no problems, when vehicle not needed.

I have seen on this forum that members have had flat batteries after a day or two which is strange unless the battery was faulty, I did once have to leave the vehicle in the garage for over 6 weeks and it still started as normal.

longest time I have kept a Superb was 6 years same battery when sold. A Ford Orion had same battery when sold after 14 years.

When the battery warranty has expired I remove the stickers and stoppers then top up with de ionised water as in the old days, sealed batteries with acid electrolyte still have water evaporation, only the area of plates covered by electrolye work, as the electrolyte level falls so does the battery capacity, keep it topped up and charged and a battery even the poor qualty modern ones will last for many years.

Have the same problem with my Fabia. My previous Fabia had 3 drain holes equally spaced in the bottom of the front doors. No problems with water draining out of them. My latest Fabia only has 2 drain holes, one at the back of the door and one just over half way along the door bottom. This means that water collects towards the front of the doors (my drive slopes downwards). I wrote to Skoda who assured me it was not a fault and not to worry about it. But it seems odd to me that water collecting in the bottom of the doors is there by design. Strange.
