Ambrosia needs more power.....

Featured Replies

Ambrosia, DSG petrol, Tsi engine pulling 200 BHP on an 11 plate and covered just over 13 K

Is it possible to have the standard map in " D " and a remap in " S " ie:- 200 BHP in "D " mode and 240ish BHP in " S " mode.

Do you have cruise?

Maybe APR is the way forward?

4 maps for price of 1. 95ron mapped, 98 ron mapped, 'stock' and valet mode

plus engine lockout so even if the thief had the key they wouldn't be taking the car.

All done via the cruise control stalk...

BTW I am running standard power on my car but will most likely be using APR

for my map when it happens. Need cruise retro fitting first though...

don't think there's a way to swap maps whilst you're driving - my wrx sti had this feature and it was a very good idea, only let down by the fact that its mpg was still **** even on the eco map!

tbh on my last car on the shark stage 1 map if you took it easy it would beat the mpg you'd have got with the standard map anyway, so the effect was the same as you're looking for.

HTH.

When you have a map you will think 200 bhp is slow

When you have a map you will think 200 bhp is slow

Thats because it is :giggle:

The difference is fairly insane. Its damn near impossible to improve mpg (though i have tried and succeeded) because you are forever looking to push on...

I understand that but on start up could you not select the map you want, if you need to change maps just pull up in a safe spot and select the other one

Sorted

That's how the APR stuff works.

Do 267BHP and 321ft/lb sound like reasonable numbers from a 2012 tsi?

I don't see why you would need multiple settings unless someone else uses the motor. I find variable driving style comes from the right foot...

Those figures sound a bit high for a K03 TSi, id have thought a remap will give maybe 50/55hp gain at most (maybe 10-15hp more than a TFSi care of the HPFP).

That torque figure certainly sounds a bit too high as well....id say you'd be doing well to get 260-270lb/ft from a K03 TSi; bearing in mind a K04 TSi will maybe only make 300lb/ft from a remap alone.

For what mods? Just a stage 1 map? No way - the power is way too high, from my experience you'd more likely see 240-245bhp i'd expect however there are tuners out there who make exaggerated claims.

For the torque though, yes that is feasible from a TSI at stage 1. Don't get too hung up on headline numbers though - its about how it drives and the area under the graph not the peak number.

Yep, exactly the point i was trying to make above - drive modestly and you'll prob see better mpg than the stock map so the concept of swapping maps isn't really necessary.

Yea, think I might go to an independent RR for verification. The first run with no adjustments showed 220 bhp. Tell you what though no matter the figures, the difference is night and day!

The TSI doesn't use a K03, it's an IHI unit.

Our 300bhp K04 conversion (turbo/map only, no supporting mods) gives 460Nm (340lb/ft) and with intercooler, exhaust and intake we see 350bhp/550Nm.

Stage 1 figures are 240-245bhp/415Nm (306lb/ft) with our map.

You guys are the experts but I thought the IHI unit was more or less a K03 clone?

Fair shout on K04 figures i was being conservative with the torque output. I think APR state they get nearly 300lb/ft from a Golf R with their stage 1 map but guess all engines are sightly different and their figures are probably worst case anyway.

Quite impressed with the torque output you manage to extract from the normal TSi i wouldnt have expected it to be that high, 100lb/ft increase is huge!

I would have thought that a Golf R would be more than that.

My stage 1 Octavia tfsi was 251.5bhp and 411nm (303lbs ft)

I was just wondering if my Idea existed, no one has come up with an answer, seems to have gone a bit "off topic"

Sorry, my bad! Looks like grr666's idea is the closest to what you want. It would be nice if it was something that came out of the factory, but then VW would have to go back to having 1 model of the Golf GTI instead of the upcoming 2 variations...

My apologies, I meant to reply to your post but somehow didn't. It isn't possible to do it with the gearbox, you'd need a switchable solution like APR's cruise control or our STS unit.

Octavia III DSG does :)

Sport, Economy and Normal modes, apparently changeable on the fly (so my local dealer says).

It doesn't change power output though. just faster throttle response and makes the steering a bit more weighty. The only solution is as already posted the shark performance map with switchable STS unit or the apr map switchable via the cruise control stalk

Thanks for that,

" Does the ECU have to be removed from the car and worked on or does it remain in place and all done through the computer port "

The Ecu is encrypted so will have to be removed, you really should have bought a 300 bhp car as standard then you'd be ok :peek: :giggle:

What you are looking for is a "turbo Boost" button a la Knight Rider

NITROUS via flip up gear lever button????

Are you sure? My 2010 car wasnt encrypted. Just buy the sts unit as part of your package from shark, read the stock map on to the sts, email to shark, get your performance map back via email, load up to the car, job done. With the sts you can swap between the maps whenever you want - takes about 2 minutes to upload.
