front brake problem

Featured Replies

Just spent the whole weekend looking at cars with my brother-in-law and turned down numerous cars and then found a really good Leon, with full seat service history. Other than new front tyres and a squeaky front brake it all looked good. Got 2 new tyres fitted on the way home and then set about removing the brake calipers to apply copper slip in the appropriate places. Passenger side done fine but when doing drivers side I found that the top bolt on the caliper had been stripped of its thread. These are fs3 calipers which if I remember correctly is the same as the mk1 Octavia. Both the bolt and the carrier are stripped and beyond being rethreaded with a tap and die ( I tried) .

So my question.. Has anyone experienced this before? I am considering getting the thread helicoiled or replacing the whole caliper carrier. Are there any other options?

Has anyone ever tapped this out to take a larger thread? There appears to be enough "meat" around the thread to take this but I may struggle to find a bolt the correct size I guess. Any thoughts?

can't see a problem any good engineering supply should be able to find a high tension bolt what size is the original are they standard pitch?

m8 1.25 pitch but they have straight barreled end with a TORX fitting end. So not an easy one to copy
