Yeti rear wiper

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have had my new yeti now for about 4 weeks, I think it a great car, but every time I start the car the rear wiper does one sweep, is there a way to disable this? can't find it in Maxi Dot.

thanks in advance for any response

That's not normal

Are you starting it in reverse gear?! The rear one should only do an occasional wipe only when the fronts are going. Sounds weird.

Mine sometimes does that too. There is a rear wiper setting in the MFD but I'm not quite sure what it is supposed to do.

Are you sure the wiper lever is not in the on position, or that you have auto set on and engage reverse gear to leave parking spot? The maxidot can be used to turn on/off auto wipe of rear screen.

In my case I am sure of all of those points. It is infrequent but does happen. I always reverse into a parking spot so the reverse gear thing will never be the case. I never leave the rear wiper on (I am obsessive about this). I will leave the front wipers in 'auto' mode however, but this rear wipe thing often happens on a dry day and, as stated in the OP, it is as the ignition is turned on.

my car has the DSG box so cant be started whist in reverse, I have made sure that the rear wiper is in the off position, the car is kept in a garage so no dew on the rear screen.

Maybe I need a trip to the dealer?

but thanks for all the ideas, I will let you all know if I get it sorted.

I have this feature ticked in the Maxidot - for the rear wiper to wipe when you select reverse. It works maybe once out of every 200 times I reverse. Or maybe just that once the Auto wipers at the front are also on as I select revers. So a useless feature as I have to wipe manually anyway all the time to clear the rear screen.

Mine seems to be doing this lately and in similar circumstances, from a space I reverse into and with the rear wiper off but auto setting on.

Not especially bothered but curious.

My Jana does this, the wag of the rear wiper shows she's an extra happy Yeti :giggle:

There are also some words in the owners handbook about it somewhere. I don't have mine to hand to give a page number but if I recall you can stop it in maxidot.

I just had a quick look at a PDF copy of SM adoption book. I think it's part of the Alternative park position of the rear window wiper section. I guess after a while you get a full sweep. I know the front wipers back off the blades when moving but not sure if the rear can... One to check at some point if I remember.

Anyway the book states:

"Each time after switching off the engine for the second time, the wiper blade of

the rear window wiper is tilted. Thus, the life of the wiper blade is prolonged.

Activation/deactivation

– Switch on the ignition.

– Push the operating level into the position 6 ? fig. 37 five times in succession

within 5 seconds.

– Switch off the ignition. After switching on the ignition again, the alternative

park position of the rear window wiper is activated/deactivated."

Oh, and I have not bothered to try this.

It might be related to the wipers on auto - in this mode, the rear wiper is activated about every 10 wipes of the front (or some such combination). I believe when the car is turned off and started again, it probably resets the count and gives a wipe. I think in no longer happens on my Yeti now with the wipers auto turned off.

Thanks Paul

However, the lever is on `neutral` mode, I mean the wipers are not working at all. Is there any setup for that auto wiping mode that you are talking about?

Don't mention rear wipers! On my recently acquired L&K the rear wiper has the habit of stopping around halfway through it's wipe, after a few seconds it returns to the park position. This happens when working in conjunction with the front wipers (occasional wipe) or when rear wash is activated. A few guys on the 'other' forum are also having this problem and one of the members is collecting a list of owners so Skoda can be tackled on it.

Thanks Paul

As you are asking about an Octavia you might be better to open a thread in that section.

Llanigraham, thanks I will do that, preferred to write here as the problem is the same and I suppose that the mechanism is also similar or even maybe the same.

Just to give an update, I opened auto wipers for  the front  and then rear in the morning as it was raining then I wanted to go to a small mechanic shop close to my house but when I tried to show them what was happening, the problem did not occur again, when I turn the key for ignition, now , rear wiper is not making one full tour after ignition.

There is something I am missing about hot this is programmed.
